what is this interior piece?

what is that piece that sticks out right under the steering wheel? like it bumbs out. My car doesnt have this.

91-93 have a different lower dash piece like the one in the picture. There is a metal "security" plate behind the buldge. 87-90 doesn't have that plate.

I'm too am little confused about the pic. The lower "bulging" dash plate below the steering wheel does indicate a '90-93 airbag car.
But, that is an '87-89 "non" air bag steering wheel.

I did this to my car as well. 90-93 black dash, but 87-89 steering wheel

The length of the MGW's shifter handle is adjustable via a set screw. They can be extended out pretty far.

It looks like the shifter 91svtcoupe has in his white notch, just covered up with a shifter boot.
