what is this mm. offset business?

I was totaling up my order for some draglites on Summit and found that option of a certain offset come up. WTF is that? Anything wrong with this rear combo?

4 Lug, 4.25" bolt pattern, 5.5" backspace, 15x8

Another question. Is offset for the front? And what backspace would be good for a 6" wide front wheel? 2 inches is good right?

If you know what backspacing you need then you can figure out the offset also.

Offset is how far the mounting surface of the wheel is from the centerline of the wheel. I believe it's considered negative if the mounting surface is closer to the inside of the wheel (like an older rear wheel drive configuration), and positive if the mounting surface is more towards the outside of the wheel (front wheel drive configuration).

Rear Combo is good. But 2" backspace on a 6" wheel up front is NOT enough.


Offset is a measure of how far from the center of the wheel the mounting surface is. Positive offset is toward the outside of the car. Negitive is toward the inside of the car.

If you take the width of the wheel yuo want and add 1" to it, then divide in half. Subtract that number from the back space. Disregard the positive or negitive part of the answer for a moment. Multiply the difference by 25.4. That's your offset, but is it positive or negitive? Well if the difference was positive, the offset is negitive. If the difference was negitive the offset is positive.

If you are going to do a 6" wheel like you were talking about you would want about 3-3.5". I have 15x6 wheels on my convertible with 3.25" backspace and 195/60 tires. Check out my signiture below for pics.
