what is voltage on a stock coil

can someone tell me what the stock voltage is on a 86-93 mustang coil is ?
I bought a 48k coil accel to replace my stock one and don't see a hole lot of change
thanks

You won't. Basically you won't see any advantage with an upgraded ignition on a stock, or mildly modified engine. The stock ignition is perfectly fine for 300rwhp. Either way, you won't see/feel any gains by replacing your coil.

list of my mods :1986 stang ,Edelbrook intake, aluminum heads, E303 cam ,70 MM throttle body ,24lb injectors ,373 gears , 10:1 pistons set up,no cats , flowmaster mufflers , short shifter , 255 fuel pump , smog pump delete , A/C delete , Aluminum Radiator , MAF convertion
i have the new coil on my old ford racing plug wires, but i bought some 10 mm wires .waiting to put them on later tonight maybe

volts ????

another reason i ask is that the new coil looks like the old coil .just diff color
so i wanted to know if i justed changed the colors or did i step up on voltage

This tech and reference book I have here say`s 38 kilovolts for 86-93.

38,000 volts I guess.

Were it me I'd leave it stock (the plug gap).

Leave it stock gap 0.052"-0.056" Use stock motorcraft copper plugs (42C's i think) or AUtolite 25's. None of that platnium or multipronged junk

Depends on the year.

79-85 i beleive is 0.045. 86-later is 0.052"

Several manuals state 0.045" for all 79-93's.

The emmissions label under my hood on my '88 states 0.052"-0.056"

The VECI on my '88 says 0.052-0.056" as I recall. I run em at 0.045-0.050" though.

Mike, any guesses on why the 0.045" spec is published for aero foxes? I don't see why (I once heard something about a coil redesign but that didn't fly with me. Do ya think it's a typo?).

I think it's more or less a typo. I've been under the hood of MANY 87+ Fox Mustangs and those that still have the stock coil cover with the emmissions label on it have said 0.052-0.056". I have yet to see one that said 0.045"

I'll take a pic of the cover over the weekend as i'm going to "visit" my Fox where i have it stored.

I don't see why you would run the smaller gap anyway. Smaller gaps are for weaker ignitions, or a power adder such as Boost or Nitrous. With N/A applications you want to go as large as you can until you start getting misfire. Any smaller really is just leaving HP on the table so to speak.

I've played with plug gaps anywhere from .045-.060. Never found a real difference in power or in my track times. The wider plug gaps are harder on the ignition components. I usually run mine at .045 with a stock E.F.I. coil and a M.S.D 6AL Box.

Stock ignition suits me very well and I also run a .045 gap...no issues what so ever.

well if you're lookin for power I'd open them up as much as possible until it starts to have a miss then close it down a little . it will allow the flame front to spread faster by allowing a larger spark to light more of the mixture quicker
