I have a buddy with a 02GT 5spd with 4.30s and bfg drag radials. He went to the track tonight and when he powershifted his car it lost all power like traction control was on. It wasnt on though. I was thinking its a timing issue. Does it everytime the tires spin a little bit. IT lose's all power bad. His best passes were lifting off the gas because of this problem. Please help, this is killing his et and mph.

Oh yeah, the track is 1/8th mile. When he powershifted every gear his mph was 72. When he lifted it was 76. That tells you it wasnt pulling. Could the traction control be trying to work even though its off? Or is it a computer issue like the 94-95's had but worse?

The differential clutches may be slipping. I experienced similiar problems in my 03 with 4.10's until the left tire totally stopped pulling. I had to get the clutches replaced with only 5,000 miles on them. It was $250 for parts, labor, friction modifier, synthetic fluid, and axle seals. Now the left tire pulls a little stronger than the right, about a foot or less. My next mod will be the rear end!

Sounds like a pretty good setup to me. Are you sure that he was keeping his RPMs up when he shifted. Just an idea. I know that at the launch with DRs if your not up there RPM wise then you will fall on your face. It could also be other stuff too though. Maybe his clutch was slipping or differential. Good luck dude.

Thats what I was thinking. I know on my BFG DRs, its either 4500RPM+ launches or just falls on its face.

Well from running the car his best times are comming when he shifts at 5100 or so, he was powershifting there too. We had a idea that it might be pulling itsself down when he powershifted at the low rpm like that, but it does it on the road too. Just sometimes seems like it has no power.
