What isthe most cost effective way to bag a stang?

Thinking about going with air bags. Most so called "kits" are outrageous. Any one know a more cost effective way?

Hmmm, well I'm not sure what you age getting at here. Unless you are buying used, there isn't much savings in buying the components seperately.

The easiest and cheapest method for the rear is to remove all leafs from your leaf spring pack except the main leaf, then place the bags between the leaf mspring mounting pad and the frame rail. In the front, it's easiest to get the bags that completely replace the coil springs.

I only know of Air Ride Technologies, who have nice stuff, but are a little pricey. You could also look at Speedway Motors, they have some components, and don't seem too bad on prices. A Shockwave 7000 rear suspension kit goes for $899.95 and the kits progress up to $999.95. Of course I don't think these are complete kits (compressor, etc.) but it is a start. I also think you might have to do a little fabrication if you use Speedway. But if that doesn't bother you then give them a look. I do know that their basic Mustang II kit goes for $999.95! No crossmember though, that's extra.

Junkyard

If you're an inventive guy and know how to fabricate, go to a junkyard and get air bags from a car there. AFAIK some Lincolns have them.

I was looking a while back and the easiest way that i can see is to just use shockwaves all the way around and use a lowered monoleaf in the rear.

Interesting thread as I have been considering bagging my car.

I have looked at Air ride's complete system and it is some coin, I may just do it little by little starting with just the front shocks. I am also wondering how good of a ride you will get out of the systems and how well it will handle....

I have ridden in a few cars with "bags" and the ride is absolutley comfortable, even with the air psi set high. As far as handling, test have shown they can corner as well or better then a "standard" suspension.

That's what I am hearing as well and I likethe fact that you control the infinite ride height settings and you can roll in and drop it to the ground......

A friend of mine has a 67 C-10 shortbed and that old truck rides and handles like a new car, it is truely impressive. Makes the ride in the Stang seem a little harsh...

I was going to bag my 66, but the system I was looking at was well into the $4500 for the front and rear. This included a mustang II style front suspension. Did not include air compressor, switches, wiring, etc.

Would you all be putting a compressor in your trunk or just adjust it before you ride at your home?

I think it would be very difficult to bag an entire stang for $1000...unless you have some mad fab skills and have done things like this in the past.

They emailed me back...I still have a few other places I am waiting to hear back from. If all goes well and my motorcycle gets sold I may try to bag my stang...
