What it takes to beat a 98T/A in a GT?

HI, I have a 95 formula but looking to upgrade.I have almost decided to get a 98 model but im also interested in mustangs.I would like to get a cobra but they are out of my price range.How much $$$ would it take to make 2000 gt as fast as a 98 TA?

Nevermind it looks like to me by reading other posts it wouldnt be worth it so ill stick with the TA.

it would not take that much. depends on how you want to go about it. 98 t/a's only run 13's. I would think you could make a 99gt wax a 98 t/a for less money. guess it depends on what kind of deal you get on the car.

I know new a mustang was a better deal. supercharged gt takes a stock t/a. t/a was like 3k+ more.

I see it this way, I like the mustang interior a lot better than a '98 TA's plus it's got fewer miles, a better engine IMO and it looks better. It's your choice but the 99+ GTs aren't slow by any means.

A 98 TA in bone stock form should get a 13.00 with a good driver. Most people who have a 98 trans am are not stock. Ls1 owners love to put the giggle gas on there cars. I know 3 guys pretty good who have ls1 cars. One is putting 543 rwhp to the ground on the spray, one is 493 rwhp on the spray, and the other i'm not sure but runs low 10's in the 1/4 on spray. N/A 4.6vs. N/A ls1 = ls1, spray 4.6 vs/ sprayed ls1 = ls1 is gonna win. There just to strong of a engine and the stock short block can handle up like 600rwhp.

the extra displacement sure helps plus they got the best drivetrain components in chevy's parts bin. Looking at the sticker price, you can see why they're not around right now.

that is a load of ****. Only a hand full of F body's have ran 12s stock. They were probably on a awesome track and had perfect conditions. I have a friend with a 1le and the only reason he is in 12s is because his car is stripped. Those myths of ls1's running 12s stock, or do to the fact they have awesome tracks and perfect conditions. Also, you cant compare times that much to other states. Its like comparing Florida to Colorado, its not fair.

They do not all run 12s, most run mid 13s stock at any average track.

600rwhp on a stock aluminum block, that is a big risk without new sleeves and other better components. Their heads however will flow that much HP and more.

I agree, and that's if you can find somebody that can actually drive one.I ran 13.08@108 in my girlfriend's stock 02 SS. The owner of the track wanted to tear the car apart over a $10 trophy.No other F-bodies were running anywhere near those times.Most were in the mid to high 13s.She just got a good one and has never had it over 80mph.I hate driving it, but it is fast.

I have only ran at a track that does not prep it, AT ALL. They only put THC(is that right?) when the drag cars are there. Other than that, nothing. Im still running low 13s but if I was at a stickier track, I bet I could hit a high 12.

LS1s are faster than 4.6s. LS1s with a few mods will run 12s (LID, catback and Drs).

I say get the LS1, they are some of the best motors from the factory, and have great potential, minus the rear!

There is a viable alternative to an LS1.....Mach 1. Stock for stock the Mach's are as fast if not faster than LS1's. Plus, they are way way way cooler.

There's no doubt that only the best drivers at good tracks get the awesome numbers (high 12s) out of stock LS1s, but the fact still remains that they vastly overpower stock GTs. Stock GTs dyno 220-230rwhp, while stock LS1s are dynoing 290-300rwhp. Even if the driver of the LS1 isn't the most skilled racer he'll still have at least a 50rwhp margin of error.

If you're looking for all out speed get the T/A, but I'd suggest driving the Mustang and seeing how you like it. I personally prefer driving the Mustang.
