What it takes to beat a 98T/A in a GT?

I've drove both an ls1 and my 2000 GT when i had it...I like the way the mustang drives better...The ls1 has more power but the GT's can keep up with them...

When I raced stock ls1's I never got beat by more than 3 cars to 100 or so...

If you decide to go GT...I would get full exhaust, DR's, 410's, a couple boltons and you should either stay right with them or beat them up top...

You can always go with a blower and you wouldn't have any problem taking them...

Mustangs are better looking cars than any LS1 (Exexpt the Vette  ) and IMOH drive better (again exept the Vette  ) for the money go are going to save buying a Mustang instead of an LS1, go can invest on mods (which will make the mustang faster and able to hang to LS1).

In Conclusion get a 99+Mustang. This is Stangnet and mustangs are the rule!!! :D :D

The one major thing about the ls1 vs 4.6 deal that everyone seems to forget is the fact that the ls1 is the top motor that can come stock in a chevy. Our GT's are a 4.6 2v compared to 5.7. Now put a 4.6 4v, ie cobra or mach1, and its another story. I'm suprised that no one ever brings that up. Yeah i would hope that the top motor that gm puts in its cars would be able to beat a 2v motor. Just my thought

eVERYBODY COMPARES ls1'S TO GT's but I think its worth reminding the price difference unless you get a steal on a LS1. Take that same amount of money into the Ford camp and you can come back with a MAch 1 and thats a pretty even race. On the other hand you can take that money you saved on a GT and do a couple of solid mods like gears , exhaust, and some DR's and maybe some suspensions and its anyone's race. I like MUstangs for looks, interior and abundance of mods but that LS1 motor is awesome but everything else on that car pretty much sucks so you know where GM spent their money. 281 vs 350 is a pretty big difference. Just my thoughts

That is exactly what i mean. It kills me that no else takes this into account. For the price of an ls1 powered car you could get a 4v modular car that is even more powerful.

My buddy that has a 99 ls1 camaro loves my 96gt more cause it is a better allaround car. Yeah his ls1 is a hell of a lot fast, than my nonPI headed gt, but he has had nothing but problems and keeps having to dump money into the car just to keep it running. I have always been a chevy guy, i have a 92 camaro and i has always been my dream car...that is until i rode in a mustang. Now I still have the camaro but the mustang is my fav.

I think the 4.6 is a great engine, the LS1 has power but there have been too many "it's supposed to do that's" Piston slap, some guzzling oil... there's a reason they say chevy's don't run right unless they drip oil :D

i race my buddys ls1 its a 98 z28 with a lid y pipe bullet muffler mass air and the best time i ran was a 12:58 at 105 thats fast he bought his for 13gs and has about 1500 extra and it only has 30000 miles on it thats a fast ls1 nearly stock

IN a nutshell, if you want a hellaciously fast engine, get the LS1. Everyone knows they are super fast right out of the box.

However, IMHO, the interior, build quality, ride, handling, and just about everything else is inferior to the Mustang.

IT feels like your sitting in a bathtub when you drive an F-body. The body roll is way worse than any GT I've ever been in, and the interior and overall styling sucks (IMO). The only exception is the Blackbird TA, which I think looks pretty cool on the exterior (everything else I said above applies).

Camaro's look like catfish on wheels.

My first two cars were Z28's, but if I were going to buy a car in the 300hp+ (stock) range, I'd opt for the Mach I or a new Cobra.

Personally, I think the '99 + Gt's are fast and they look great. They are the best bang for the buck, which is probably why Ford has sold more Mustangs in the last few years than Cmaros and Firebirds COMBINED.

The only regret I had after I bought by new '03 GT was that I wished I had waited for the Mach I.

But thats just my opinion...

You sure that it was 12.5 and not 13.5? That speed is a little low for a mid 12 sec run in the 1/4.

Friend of mine has a 98 ta with a built ls1 N/A,puts out 395 RWHP and 364RWTQ , I am getting my vortech in this week hopefully for my 02 GT , biggest mod i have is the full length headers , his car has full SLP exhaust NO cats , AFR flowmatched 300CFM heads , .605 lift cam not sure on duration of cam , ross flat top forged pistons , LS6 intake and SLP mass air meter , I guess ill see if my lighter car with less HP hangs with him after the vortech is on , I will post outcome even if I lose LOL. I am hoping my weight advantage will help me . By the way hes selling it for I think 12 G if anybody wants it , engine has 8K miles on it because someone else did all the wrench turning and the heads were over 2G after port work.

i hang with majority of the SS's and T/A's ihave about $700 in my car and i am about to put another $25 for a Steeda timing adj. so for $725 i am pretty sure i will still hang with them until like 4th for sure the top end on those LS6 are killer but i like the low end of the LS1 i was on my way to work at T.O.D (Toyota of Dallas) and it was sat and i was bored so i ran up on liek a the newer body sytle vette and i stood with him all the way to my exit he had to be pissed he could not shake a 4.6L vs a 5.7... Awww thats why they are not selling those anymore...i have a total of 15000 included in my GT and thats with 3k in warrenties, Gap Etchso for 12k you have a nice car with RESPECT!!! Go with the STANG you will lose 1.1L but it is worth it.. The only complaint i hear bout the 4.6 is 3rd and 4th gear sucks compared to the T-56... there was my $0.02

i have a couple friends who have LS1's. one is a 98 T/A and the other a 01 z28.the 98 t/a was the faster of the two. he ran 13.58 bone stock on street tires. not sure about the mph. he has since put on a lid, long tubes, free mods, cutouts, and a 3800 stall and runs 8.0's in the 1/8 down from a 8.80 stock. like i said the z28 was a little slower, i think it ran like 14.00 stock.

the ls1's respond SO WELL to mods and thats one stout motor. sounds great too. mustangs are just more my style. i'm into stangs and i'm into boost. and i love the little 4.6L. its a great motor.

i say run 14# and spank ls1 ass all day.
