THIS IS NOT A FOR SALE POSTING

Yest I was cleaning the cars when a plumber that was next door came over to admire them. We talked for awhile about the cars hed had "back in high school" and so on....He mentioned to me he had some "gt40 heads from a lightning"...I wasnt aware lightnings used the gt40s ?? Anyways i figure theyll still be better heads than the stockers on my carbed 86, my question is what are they and what are they worth?? He said theyd need "cleaned" up but idk to what extent....Any help appreciated!

Gen 1 Lightnings had the same GT40 heads as the 93 Cobra. They would be a major upgrade over the stock 86 heads, but you very well could have PTV clearance issues with the flat top pistons in the 86. Realistic value is probably $150-300 depending on condition. Bear in mind that they'd probably need a few hundred dollars worth of refurbishing before you install them.

You'll also need to install inserts in the bolt holes to run the stock 7/16 bolts, since Lightning heads will be drilled to accomidate the 351w's larger 1/2" head bolts.

Theyre decent heads, but pretty common now a days. The 1996 and early-97 Ford Explorer 5.0l's had them as well.

What they're worth will depend on your location. Those heads would still fetch about $400 around here. The further south you go, the less expensive they tend to become.

My dad picked up a 302 with 30,000 miles, out of I believe a '99 Explorer (rolled over and sat for years), for $200. He kept the heads, which are the GT40P's, for himself and he gave me the block to use in my car. Gearbanger is correct, further south you go, the less expensive they are.
