I don't even think anyone sells 83 octane? Anyways, use what the manual calls for unless you have changed the timing/tune, or have some pretty heavy mods.

I use 87.

There is absolutely no point in using anything over 87 octane unless your car is tuned to take advantage of the extra octane or if you increase the timing...

I use nothing but shell 93 in my car...

where do you find 83? the lowest they have around me is 87. the pumps in the chicagoland are all 87, 89, and 93. and there are a few gas stations that sell race gas too.

Same with Texaco with techron, I seem to make the most power out of it. my car HATES BP.

in order
Chevron/Texaco
Shell Vpower
Exxon/Mobil
I don't even want to put BP on here

If the car doesn't have a tune than it's pointless and you're wasting your money by using anything other than 87 octane. The only reason why you should ever use a higher octane is if you can audibly hear knocking. If you're going to get a tune, than spend the money on 93 octane. When tuned for 93 octane will provide more power and even better gas mileage.

I use 93 octane on an 87 race tune because I had some pinging issues with 93 octane tunes so I'm playing it safe now.

Don't worry dude, you can still play......you just have to venture out of the 4.6L section now in order to do so.
