What kind of jack and stands do you use?

I was reading on Jalopnik and came across an article that talks about PROPER use of jacks and jack stands, and I was wondering what all of you guys (and gals) here used.

I currently have a crappy ACDelco jack and stands, but it doesn't do well on my apartment complex's pavement. The wheels are too small, as well as the jack point.

So in essence, I am looking for a new jack, most likely a low profile one with a LONG jack bar.

i use a pair of truck jackstands.. BIG ONES!

I have a Craftsman aluminum racing jack and 3 ton jackstands. at work i have my choise of 12 lifts so no need there. when im home i do the NASCAR style wrenching. only thing that sucks is my jack barely fits under the front to get the k-member jacking spot cause of how lot the car is. also i have pesky neighbors that ask too many questions.

Same. I also have 4-5 sets of other jackstands (some larin, some napa, etc.), a high lift craftsman SUV jack (for lifting stuff high, and my moms minivan when she needs work done), craftsman aluminum motorcycle/atv jack (works great as a trans jack/rear end jack), and two 2-1/2ton bottle jacks.

I'm contemplating getting either a scissor lift or a drive on lift such as the kwiklift.

Does anyone know if a pneumatic jack exists? Maybe a pneumatic scissor jack?

I just want a jack that'll hook up to my air compressor...that'd be awesome!

Pneumatic jacks do exist ... I've seen them at harbor freight (so who knows) but I've wondered how well they work compared to a floor jack (with a relatively small compressor) ... At the dealership that I used to work at, some lifts had pneumatics that ran the legnth of the lift (in between) and they were on bearings so you could slide them back and forth ... they worked awesome!

IDK about a phenumatic scissor jack though ...

Wouldn't that be neat if they made a hybrid floor jack? It would allow the user to pump with a handle, or use an air compressor!

I bought me a Kobalt (a Lowe's exclusive brand) 26gal 1.5hp 155psi max compressor the other day. It came with a set of 6 tools...ran me only $150 brand new, so I couldn't pass it up!!!

The 2nd day I had it, we made use of the air hammer (to split a 2x4), the impact wrench, the die grinder, and the heavy duty tire gauge. But then I turned around and bought a set of Craftsman 1/2in metric deepwell impact sockets; talk about emptyin' the bank!

But as for the pneumatic scissor jack, I think I can hook a pneumatic drill to it and spin away! lol That'd be way dangerous!

HOLY FUMONKEYS!

I just went to Sears and looked at the Craftsman jacks...
...the aluminum one, that I think you guys are talking about, is $199.99!

So I bought it...and let me say, this thing is AMAZING. I am about to go test it under my car, hehe. But in the store, I took it out of the box...and that handle is at least 1.5in diameter. Friggen insane. I love it. 2 FULL pumps got the jack to full height of 18"!!!

WOOOOOOOOOOT!

EDIT: Purchase price was $179.99, it was on sale today. It will probably end up being easier to use than ramps.

Be careful with those craftsman aluminum jacks. My friend nought one a while back. he is a total craftsman freak, talking about how all his $4000 worth of tools is so great. Anyways, he jacked up his brand new altima a few weeks back to install some eibachs. Long story short, as his jack reached near maximum height the pressure dropped and slammed to the ground. I was going to buy one but I'm telling you, lifting cars up with the jack is the scariest point for me. The idea of my car falling like that gets me every time.

This is a little off topic since you already got a jack ... be sure to get a good oil/water separator (coalescing filter) so that you don't end up shooting water into all of your tools. Especially if/when you get the DIY painting bug.

Also, be sure to drain the tank from time to time to blow out all of the nasty ass water that accumulates. I used some fittings, a valve and a hose with a quick disconnect in place of the petcock valve (those things suck, they blow crap everywhere, including your hands) ... So when I want to empty my tank, I just pressurize it to the max, connect a hose to the quick disconnect, open the valve and blast away. Just thought I'd share my method for emptying the tank without getting messy.

i use 4 rhyno ramps instead of jackstand. Unless i need to jack car up with no load on sprig, then I use walmart 1.5t one.

As far as Jack goes, i use Sears racing aluminum. not low enough as i like tho
