What kind of oil for Auto-x/open track?

I was wondering what kind of oil I should be using. My car is run only in moderately warm weather (rarely below 40-50 degrees) and sees a fair amount of use at our local SCCA events. I was thinking something along the lines of 15w-50 does that sounds ok or am I way off?

I've always just used the stock 10w-30

Run a viscosity recommended by Ford (adjusted for any motor mods if need be) for the temp you're running in. Why change the oil for AX? The motor sees more abuse on the street as it is.

:OT: I was planning on getting into autocrossing with my stang....Can you give me some more info about the scca and how stuff works there, and autocrossing tips and all that good stuff. I'll email you about this privately...kool?

It's a pretty basic setup. You show up, pay your entry fee, get the car teched, and race. A typical course is 0:45-1:30 and is usually run entirely in 2nd (unless it's really tight needing you to drop to first or has a really long straight which needs a bit of third; both are rare).

As a beginner, don't try to be fast. You'll only end up slower. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Concentrate on staying on course instead of doing it really fast as the myriad of cones can be pretty confusing for even the experienced drivers. Rule #1: Have fun.

I have done things like this (mazda rev it up and Car and Drivers Ride and Drive) but I am worried about keeping my solid rear in check and also, I am probably way over powered for that kinda stuff. BTW I have all the steeda gtrac stuff (stage 1, 2, 3). I want to switch to MM stuff (coil overs, 3 link rear) but first I wanna get my feet wet and improve skill before I go changing crap all over again. You think my car will be ok with a light foot? Oh, BTW I'm probably making an estimated 330-350 rwhp and I run a 3.55 rear w/ taller gears in the T-5 (due to the g-force gears in it).

With the Steeda stuff you should be fine. Its as competitive or as laidback as you want it to be. I got into it last year, and sure there are tons of better handling cars out there, but I still had a blast. With your suspension and the power your making you should do very well. BTW - Event the first couple times when I didn't drive that well it was still insanely fun! Also, I should have worded the questions better, I won't be changing my oil just for Auto-X, I just wanted something that will hold up well to that abuse and be OK on the street. I disagree that my car will see more abuse on the street. I beat the s*** out of it at SCCA, and I have too many speeding tickets to drive like that on the street!
