I have to get 2 new tires and I was wondering what you guys think are some good tires for a good price. I cant spend more than about $150 each, but less is better. The tires are still stock 16 in. rims. And I would like to find some that handle decent in the rain cause the ones I have now just arent cutting it.

i just put a set of this sumitomos on my stang they seem to do good alot of people around here use this brand the htr ll is what most people run on there stangs but i have the hzr 4 they handle great in foul weather click on link and check them all out. and there in your price range.

I just got Pirelli's and they should be coming in tomorrow, I got the all season ones since I live in NJ and we get snow. But they seem to be a pretty good tire. Here is the link

I jsut put some General UHP's on the front of mine (not sure if they come in the right 16" size) but I have been happy with them overall so far. They are better than the Goodyear ZR45's I have in the back...

I have the toyo proxy's And I am very happy with them, Wet or dry they seem to hold, way better than the goodyears, I tried dunlops, no good also.

Someone please explaine sizing to me. I my last vehicle was my first vehicle and it was a 4x4. So tires sising was easy. 31x10.5R15. Easy as pie to under stand. The ones on my car are currently 225/55R16. I know the R16 is the rim, but the rest? What is the widest I can go and not have to worry about rubbing?

Ok thanks. Some people on another forum were telling me but they told me the second number is the height. But they didnt say the height of the sidewall so I was very confused.


What would be the widest tires I could get away with putting on my stock 16 in rims? They have 225/55 R16's on currently.

Ok then, what size tire to I need to get if I want to keep the sidewall the same size but I want to go to 245's? basically 245/XX R16




Solve for XX but it has to be the same side wall height as a 225/55
I hate math.

Solve for XX but it has to be the same side wall height as a 225/55

if sticking with the same diameter wheel, the calculation is extremely simple... take 225 (225mm) x 55 (.55 ratio) = 123.75 (123.75mm sidewall height)... now we know the height we want... take the 123.75mm and divide by the new width (245mm) and we get... 123.75/245 = 0.505xxxx

so we want as close to 0.505xxxx ratio as we can get... 0.50 is very close...

therefore... 245/50/16 will be a nearly perfect match

I figured that put earlier. But thanks for reassuring me. I am HORRIBLE at math.

Now back to my other question. Will 245's fit in the front without rubbing.

Thanks. I got a price of $280 shipped for the 4 tires. Plus $50 to get them mounted and balanced. Im gonna see if a guy I know can beat that price at his tires shop.
