what major things go bad on the 2.3

I just bought an 87 2.3 auto 400 bucks what are the major things that go bad on these cars thanks

tranny if it is an automatic
the cam if you arn't good about changing the oil.
Otherwise, these engines are way overbuilt for the power they make. They'll run forever it seems.

The oil pan gasket will corrode, leaving tons of small pieces clogging up your oil sump and leaving you with zero oil pressure.

Not an easy fix, but it is a cheap fix that you can do yourself.

Give it a tune-up, change the oil, change the fuel filter and fix the little things that are wrong with it..........it'll last forever!

not much goes wrong on these cars... just maintenance mainly..

That never happened on my '90 and it had 156K on it.

Didn't happen on mine until 210,000 miles. Currently on 243,000 miles, original valve cover gasket.

heater coil..... its a tough job , but a cheap part. I gotta replace mine tuesday... :damnit:

well guys I went to start my 4 banger today and the motor is shot when i started it up it sounded like a a can of marbles rattling got out popped the hood and there was a puddle of oil on the side of the car got down there and there is a hole in the side of the oil pan about 2 inch by 2 inch oil sprayed everywere the guy that I got it from didnt take car of the fluids oil was blacker than hell i changed the oil a few days ago and I know it had oil in it cause know its all over my garage floor and yes im more pissed off over my garage floor then the car its a new garage not a spot on it till now o well quess its time to start my winter project car early

Man, I'm speechless. Really sorry to hear that.

I guess an upside is that 2.3's can be found anywhere.

i bought the car so i could drive it for the summer and build it up this winter but i found me a 2.3 for 150 bucks 100,000 miles not far from my house plus im off work the whole month of july for shut down so i have pletty of time to do the swap
