1. Should I get a High Volume or standard volume pump?

2. What is a good brand? Ex. Ford racing, Melling, ???

3. I read somewhere that if I get a Ford Racing high volume pump I may have to make modifications to the oil pan. Is this true and if so what kind of modifications? Or will it bolt in?

Thanks Guys

high volume pump will suck all the oil out of a stock pan. If you get a high volume you need to get a 7qt pan, or run the risk of sucking the pan dry at high RPMs.

Well I guess I get the idea. I feel kinda dumb now! I always want to go bigger and safer than I need to but I glad I asked on this because I may have ended up making a mistake. Thanks guys!

This leads to the next question. Can I run a stud girdle with the stock pan?

Theres nothing wrong with running a high flow pump. You just need to get the corresponding part, our stock oil pump are like our h2o pump they can supply high hp/tq cars. I have no clue on the girdle though.

Been a long time since I have seen any discussions on this topic.

Years ago, lots of peeps would not use a high performance pump on a stock short block because of the close specs on rod & main bearings.

A motor set up for racing is gonna have a fatter spec on the bearings.

The thinking here is the high pressure and close spec in the stock motor can cause a wash away of the bearing surface.

The race motor needs the extra supply of oil due the the extra clearance.
