What pads with Brembo rotors?

I need to replace my rotors on the next brake job and was thinking of getting some Brembos (Non slotted or drilled @ $47 each). Should I use the Ford pads on them or go with something else? Will the Ford pads do the job?

What is the stock rotor size?

Would the Cobra upgrade kit be worth my while for daily driving or does it not make that much difference?

Stock GT rotors are 10.8"


Ford OEM pads are a pretty decent pad. Low dust, low noise, decent performance.

You can go with hawks, but they can sometimes be a little noisy.

Nope, the Cobra's rear disk are 11.65" The Cobra has larger rear brakes than the front brakes on the GT

Anything special involved in doing the Cobra front brake kit or is it a simple bolt on replacement? Is there something different with the brake lines and thats why you replace those?

The 99-04 GT's don't need new brake lines. The brake lines they use are the same for all V6's GT's and Cobras. The 94-98 cars however need new brake lines. That's why most kits just include them...usually they are stainless as well. You just may need new banjo bolts as ford screwed around with coarse and fine threads over the years. When you buy a kit with lines however, it comes with everything. All you would need is brake fluid

Cobra brake kit is simple swap. I did mine in less than 2 hours. Most of that time was spent jacking up the car and taking off the tires.

All you need is a 15mm wrench basically (not literally, you might need a few other tools lol)

while we're on the subject, i recently replaced my rear rotors for some brembo slotted rotors (stock size) and slapped in some EBC pads. dont remember what kind of pads, they were the cheap ones, not even the "green stuff". anyway, they squeal a lot now. they make tons of noise every time i stop. normal??

I think its normal if they are cheap. You get what you pay for with brake pads.

EBS have been known to squeal. Plus the GT rotors are so thin they transmit harmonics very easily.

I can't stand squealing. I've tried a lot of pads but in the end i stick with Ford OEM because they've been nice and quiet.

I use the Ford pads as well. They are starting to squeak a little now but maybe its because my rotors are down to the end of their life.

+1 for the oem ford pads though I've been thinking about trying the Hawk ceramic pads. Since the the oem cobra pads are ridiculously expensive.

The EBC green stuff pads I had were awful. I did a full brake job with the pads, rotors, and hardware. They made noise from day one and they dusted like no other.

Another thumbs down for Hawk pads from me. Had them on the car once and they were loud, plus wore out dang quick.

Hawk makes great pads, but i could never street drive them. Just too noisy and dusty.


If i had gobs and gobs of cash, i would have two brake rotor/pad setups.

I'd have Brembo blanks with Hawk pads for autoXing/road racing (if i were to ever do that)

For the street, i'd get Brembo cross-drilled (for the bling bling only) and OEM pads.

If you want a good pad for a reasonable price, that's quiet, low dust and made of ceramic, go with Raybestos Quiet Stop's. Fantastic pad for about $65 a set and you can buy them locally.

Better than OEM? That brand always reminded me of asbestos so it makes me think the brake dust is toxic.

i have the 14" brembo slotted and 6 piston caliper setup and I HAD TO USE there pads .. nothing else was working, everything squel'd to damn much !

Ford OEM pads SUCK big time, they fade after 2-3 stops. Changed to plain brembos with Carbotech Bobcat.. fade free, lots of brake torque, amazing stopping power, no noise.. a little more dust, wipes easy. You can't go wrong..

Newer Cobras come with ceramic. IMO these are equivalent.

Fade has more to do with heat disappation than it does pad material. The stock 10.8" rotors aren't exactly the best heat sinks.

Ford OEM pads on 13" brakes don't fade at all. I've made plenty of 120-60 stops to find this out firsthand.

I don't know who makes the pads for Ford, but the pads i got with my Mach 1 brake kit were made by PBR. They have PBR stamped on them and are organic i beleive. Anyway, they perform very well and i notice when i build a little heat in them, they actually seem to grab harder. If they are the same as Ford OEM i would recommend them. If they are not, well then i'll be buying my next set of pads from PBR.

I was checking these out online and they got some really good reviews but I cant seem to find where to get them. Their site doesnt have anywhere to order them.
