What parts i need for T5 to TKO/TKO500 swap

The 500 has a shorter 1rst gear then the 600, and is about $100 cheaper. Also, the 600 has a better overdrive gear for highway driving. For the swap you will need a 26 spline clutch disc, TKO bellhousing, New Shifter(or use the Tremec one), 31 spline slip yoke, driveshaft spacer, fox shifter fork, and the neccesary fluids. As soon as I figure out why my car is retarded, I will be doign the swap as well.

TKO600 two different oved drive (5th gear) 0.82 and 0.64 , 0.82 is road race tranny or close gear ratio ,but 1st gear on any 600 sux on launching unless you have some 4.30 gears

The 600 handles 100ft lbs more...that alone should be one of the biggesr deciding factors.
I can tell virtually no diff in my 1st gear from my T-5.
The RR 600 has a **** OD..get the reg one

Okay. The TKO500 can be had with a 26 spline input shaft and will handle close to the 600 lb ft that a TKO600 will. In actuality most places sell the TKO500 26 spline tranny either the same price or within about 20 bucks of a TKO600 with the highway OD.

I would highly recommend the 26 spline input shaft, a stock size input shaft is a weak link on that tranny.

I'm pretty sure I posted this before, maybe we could get a sticky or something?

You need:

3/8 intake spacer
31 Spline yoke OR D/S for '96-04 Mustang. (you will have to get your driveshaft balanced if you change yokes or it will likely vibrate).
Clutch or at least disc for 26 spline (SPEC 2 or 2+ at the least).
Speedo Gear (different tooth count than a t5).
TKO Bellhousing
Foxbody clutch fork
3 quarts of GM Syncromesh fluid

Realistically, call your local distributor for the tranny (Steeda, D&D, etc), they can tell you everything you need. there is a lot of knowledge at D&D with these tranny's, and they can do a slick shift modification on the trans I believe...

Yeah, but the input shaft is the weak point on the TKO500. I'd bet the 1st gear is the other one. So, upgrade the input shaft and there goes a weak link....

I'm probably gonna look into one of the slick shift D&D setups. If nothing else I'm probably simply going to send my current tranny to them to get upgraded, probably have them drop in a 2.95 1st gear also so I can at least attempt to use Nitrous in 1st. (can't do it now lol)

Tremec rates them to put you in the ballpark. There's guys running well over 600 lbs on TKO600's without breaking them. However around 500 lbs you will twist/break the small input shafts regardless of what tranny you have (check out the '03-04 Cobra guys, they swap input shafts along with a clutch change on their T56's).

If you have 600 lbs of torque you aren't worried about the loss of less than .5 on your 1st gear.... It will actually help your launch.

Bottom line, unless you absolutely want the low 1st gear, or absolutely want to keep your current clutch (stupid if you're pulling the clutch anyway or have damaged a stock tranny), I'd go TKO600 to start with. Like I said, same price within 20 bucks as the TKO500 with the 26 spline input shaft..

Doesnt matter who makes what...Tremec rates them for a reason period.
I made 544rw with a T-5....get my point.

I agree the 600 is the way to go, just dont understand you trying to make it seem like the 500 can handle this n that (I was just going off hard facts, not guesstimates)

Because the 10 spline input shaft is what breaks on a TKO500 first, typically. Especially given a heavy car, sticky tires, and hard launches. Upgrade to a 26spline input and that weak link goes away. Now the 1st gear becomes a liability, higher ratio=more teeth, more teeth in this case means smaller weaker teeth. That's the basic differences between these 3 transmissions(tko500 10 spline, 26 spline, and tko600). I don't understand why you don't understand my point, that these ARE hard facts not guesstimates... as is the fact that there are a LOT of cars out there making waaay more than 600 lbs of torque running a TKO600. There is no warranty, however the TKO500 was rated at 500 lbs because TTC would stand by the fact that the weaker input/1st gear will handle that kind of power. The 600 is rated at such because that's what they will stand by. However the 600 has been proven to handle more already (ask the guys at WFC running classes where they can't use autos, running mid-8's on a 600).

My only "guesstimate" is that the 500 with a 26 sp. input will handle more than its rated 500 lbs, which I am doing right now. If and when I break it I'll let you know.

Slow5.0 don't be afraid of the 1st gear in the 600. It won't hurt you that much, we hurt for traction to start with unless you have really sticky tires... As for where to get them, call around. There's only like 12 distributors for the tranny's now. There was too much of a price war killing some of the little guys so they cut back to the bigger ones. Sucks for us because the things are almost 200 bucks more expensive now than when I bought mine. Like I said before, though, call D&D and talk to them about what you need. I had a good conversation with Don Walsh about the tranny's at WFC9, there's a lot of knowledge there.

I will rather lose a few horses with TKO500 than keep breaking and buying G-force trannys,

Today i called Walt at http://www.promotionpowertrain.com , he said same thing even he have G-force transmissions for sale too

He told me to go with TKO500 one with 26 spline input shaft , i asked about TKO600, he said 1st geat is too long and with my heavy car i will hate it on launch and 60ft

He give me good deal ,whole package
TKO500 + Lakewood bell housing + Fox body clutch fork + 31 spline joke + driveshaft spacer + 26 spline McLoed clutch disc (i already have "kustom" clutch kit from him for T5 but i need new 26 spline clutch disc) + Pro50 shifter

= $2360 + shipping $80
When i send my broken T5 $200 and bell housing (its 94-95 rare one ) $40 = $240

$2360+$80-$240= $2200 at my door (if i buy everything separate ,its would be $2400)

I called D&D Performance he wants $300 more without my tranny ,so that $540 more than one from promotionpowertrain

I never once mentioned anything about input shafts..you did..I agree with you why I never said a word about that because you are right. Alls I said was dont guesstimate a 500 can handle xxx with 26-splines...its rated at 500 ft lbs period.
Yes guys make 600-700-800 with these trannies (i myself am over-powering my 600) and I'm well-aware what they can handle, was just sayin Tremec rates them for a reason, and there is NO warr. with any perf. parts.

Coming to my point (for the entire post) get the 600...it can handle more, 1st gear isnt noticable diff (like i said 10-15 post ago..lol) and basically the same price.

Something they should mention in your notes is that oversized oil pans will require heavy modification in order for the clutch cable and starter to have mounting clearance. I got the Quick Time bell housing for my swap and have been very frustrated by it because they rotated the starter position down about an inch from the factory location so now it sits extremely close to my headers with my stock oil pan and will only fit if I cut out part of my oversized oil pan.
Also, the clutch cable path goes through where an oversized oil pan would be.
I've attached the parts list I got when I purchased my TKO 600 from Modern Driveline.
Paul Coffey over at Modern Driveline helped me a ton on this both in knowing what to buy, but also in installation tips. I'd send him a picture of something and we could get on the phone and work through it. [email protected]
