what RPM shift

On a stock block mustang 2v, what is the highest rpm u can shift at without hurting the motot. ( lets say the rev limiteer is off )..... is it still only 6000?

With your mods there is no reason to pass 6k

I forget the exact number but the rev limiter is set (factory setting) a few hundred rpm before the big danger zone.

Some of the guys running pretty agressive cams, ported heads, so on are shifting 65-6600RPM on a stock bottom end.

They have a reason to though.

I missed a shift once and hit about 6300 RPM or so and it didnt sound too happy up there.

I actually have my limiter backed down to 5900.

i have my shift light set at about 5500, You don't really need to be revving that high with 4.10's anyway

I know someone who ran some nitrous through his 2v and shifted at 7200RPM... He didn't all the time, but during some test runs to figure out where it was going to stop making power he took it there a few times, and it made it.

If you have a dyno sheet and can plot out your HP/TQ every 100 RPM you can put it into the calculator attached in the thread below.

The idea is to stay in the power band and the general rule is to shift 10% higher RPM than your peak power which on a stock PI headed 2V is about 5200 RPM, so you would want to shift about 5700-5800 RPM. If you shift too soon your RPMs drop too low, by shifting above your peak your RPMs drop into a better spot in the powerband, giving you a higher average power while in that gear.

i shift a little past 5000 cuz you can feel the powerband just die after that. It just doesnt pull anymore. plus it is a little better for the engine not to be reving the s**t out of it

Stock rev limiter is 6050 guys. I agree will Bill about 10%, i usually say 8-10%. But i have a feeling my set-up will be knocking at peaking at 5900-6k and i sure don't want to be shifting at 6550.
