What settings for timing and fuel are you using on your Diablo Predator?

I am now running:

-- Timing advanced 2.5% in both ranges;
-- Fuel richened 9% in low range and 12% in high range.

These seem to be good operating points with no problems; minor variations from these values do not have a significant effect on my car’s performance.

Whoa, first off- all you people who added fuel you are WASTING fuel and horsepower!

I leaned out 6% to 4k, and 4% beyond and achieved a very nice A/F on a dyno. (The power loss is due to backing off the timing completely to see if it was gaining anything, it was at 4% on the first pass).

I obviously picked up some power with the fuel adjustments, since my peak hp didnt change by removing the timing advance (you can see where timing was helping though)

I'm running the stock diablo tune, what octane should I use with that? I'm using 93 right now, but noticed it said to use 91 in the manual..

Also, after installing the tune, I noticed my car Idles around 500 rpms, is this normal? I never really payed attention to what the idle was before. The engine noise at idle also isn't smooth, seems to fluctuate a bit.

The reason I riched up my a/f ratio was because my engine light was on saying Im lean, so I dont think Im wasting anything.

Has anyone else had a dyno while using the predator? I have a feeling that adding fuel down low is ok but up top people will be running extremely rich.

All cars are different. Unless you hook your car up to a wideband, I wouldn't mess with the fuel settings, otherwise you are shooting in the dark. Unless you've made modifications to the fuel system itself (MAF, injectors, etc) The EEC will do a fairly good job keeping it in range under WOT. Once you hook it up to a wideband you can dial it in closer.

My a/f was pretty decent stock, even with my intake and exhaust mods.

You can adjust the idle withe the predator. Just raise it up a bit. I have mine set at 630, sounds great.

I would run 93, with 91 in CA, I ping like mad on the OE diablo tune.

triggz, looking at your dyno graph, what values for fuel did you put in the Predator for your pull that had the richer A/F ratio?

About the spark advance setting.. should I raise this as high as possible without pinging? I have it at +4 low and high and my engine doesn't ping yet with 93 octane.

Yes, that is generally the procedure. Tuners often adjust the timing to the point that pinging just vanishes, and then back it off another degree.

After all of these posts, I don't think we have any definite conclusions on optimal timing and fuel settings for the Predator. There are many opinions, but I don't think most of them are backed up by conclusive evidence. We need to get to the bottom of this and not depend on anecdotal evidence!

BTW, I posed this question to Diablosport. They said the Predator is provided with a default performance tune and changing fuel and timing was not necessary. Although I am very happy with the Predator, I was not satisfied with this response.

Yea, but what are they changing to make their tune ...performance? Without advancing the timing ...

I advanced my spark +4 in low / high and riched my low WOT fuel by like 3. I was looking at my dyno sheets and I'm pretty lean in the low band and it evens out well enough. I didn't mess with the high band WOT fuel.

I messed with my advance a little. I noticed you guys were advancing +4 high and low. I did that and it sounds fine, so I went +4.5 and it still sounds fine. Could I keep going up until it pings and then back it up a little? Or should I just leave it alone. I basically want to advance +.5 at a time until it misfires then back it up .5 Does that sound bad? Oh yea, I'm using 93 octane too BTW.

The richer A/F is stock.

My timing as advanced 6% currently, no pinging on 93. I would like to find out what these percentages equate to in degrees..

...I'm with you there triggz. It would be nice knowing for sure if 4% advanced is the same as 4* advanced like with the Steeda T/A. Even more so, how much is the timing advanced by Diablo when the Sport tune is installed. I imagine it has been advanced, just how much is the question. It certainly doesn't make sense to run the factory 10* timing and call it a Sport tune, same goes for the fuel adjustments. I’m curious because I’m using what I guess would be called the standard Sport tune from Diablo. I ordered from partshopper and either failed to fill out a form for my current mods, or there wasn’t one to fill out. So, it’s the Sport tune right out of the box for my make and model year.
Another thing of confusion for me. Those of you using the predator to adjust a rich fuel condition, are you running cats in your mid-pipe? Seems that after I installed my prochamber without cats, plus the MAF to Intake mods, it created more of a rich fuel condition. I don’t want to run too rich and surely don’t want to run too lean.

Would someone who has had more than a week and a half to play around with this programmer be willing to help out and provide timing/fuel settings that would at least be a decent starting point to tinker with?

Thanks,
-Cale

The percentage value is of what your stock timing is. i.e. let's say your stock timing is set to 10* and you add 4.5% on the Predator. Well that's just .45* so now your timing is to 10.45*. You will only get a total of 1* advance. I have my Steeda T/A set to 13*and my Predator to 10% advance of my stock setting of 10*. So my new stock timing should be 11*. Read this

triggs i bet you would gain a decent amount of torque if added some more fuel to the bottom end...
i tune my camaro, and i just order a predator today for the stang.

torque likes to be on the rich side and hp lean(i think someone mention this earlier)
i shoot for around 12.5 for peak torque then lean it out to around 12.8-13.1 as the hp goes up...

also has any done a datalog of the stock tune and one of the predator performance tune to see how much timing it adds?
