What Shifter???

Ive seen some shifters that are really short(T5). Ive had both the TRI AX and the racers choice, and niether is as short as Ive seen in some cars at shows and at the track. Do some people cut handles, or is there a really short handle available??

Looks to absolutely CREAM anything else available on the market today. I'm thinking after this shifter makes it's rounds we are going to see some major changes from every other aftermarket shifter manufacturer.

the pro 5.0 is very short

Pro 5.0 is the way to go. Very tight and precise, as well as ultra short throws. You have to reach a little bit more for the knob but who cares? Steeda's new slogan should be "If you can't find 'em, grind 'em!"

I believe the Pro 5.0 is the shortest available throw...I have had the Tri-ax and the Pro 5.0 and prefer the "straightness" of the 5.0 over the Steeda...

I think the "bend" in the tri-ax still allows for stock type shifts...where the Pro 5.o is a very nice difference over stock because it feels stouter/more connected to the car/ and no bend in the shifter...

Pro 5.0 is my vote...

actually. the new MGW has the shortest throw of any shifter now on the market. This is because he raised the level of the base. this creates a longer run from the pivot point to the lower ball that seats in the shifter. Even with a longer handle the shifts would be as short or shorter than comparable shifters. Do some reading .

the length of throw of any shifter is directly related to the centerline distance of the pivot ball and the selector ball( the little ball on the bottom that actually goes in the tranny) the longer the distance between these 2 ball centerlines the SHORTER the throw.

currently my shifter has the LONGEST distance between centers of ANY shifter CURRENTLY on the market. i am sure that my competitotrs will shorten theirs once mine is out awhile.

now one thing that alot of people get confused by is thinking a shifter is short just becasue the handle is lowered on the shifter. this is true AND false. you do shorten the ARC distance of the knob the lower you go but you really did not change the actual shift throw at all down in the shifter. that is why our different height handles can give the feel of a shorter throw in addtion to the altering of the ball centerlines.

I would like to see a side by side test of each shifter and which shifter is shorter for the driver...I'm not going to read a particular brands shifter info because those seem to be a bit on the bias side...that is where a magazine article comparo would be best...

I'm not going just by what george (MGW) has said. If you look around the forums you will see that most of the people who are buying this shifter are replacing a tri-ax or pro5.0 with it. So far i havn't seen a single person who has said anything other than "this shifter makes every other shifter obsolete". I'm not trying to tell anyone what to buy, hell i could care less what anyone else wants in their car. I'm just stating what i've heard and why i chose the shifter i did.

Thanks for the responses but Ive driven the pro-5.0 too and thats not it. Im thinking that the cars I saw was people cutting thier handles down the threads. The shifter was so low that the boot was all wrinkled up (looks almost like a ****er in a Supra or even the new 05 GT). Im not looking to do it, was just trying to find out if it was custom.

I agree w/u 5spd GT, I wish I would have went w/the pro-5.0 rather than Steeda.

oh. my stock handle is cut. It LOOKS very short although the throw is barely shorter than stock. Really crappy IMHO.

Trust me I look around the forums

I really doubt the actual backing of the MGW makes people say the Pro 5.0 or Steeda Tri-ax should be obsolete...I have not tried one...but I wouldn't bet that it would be any better or worse but in the same "class"...

The simple fact is that any aftermarket shifter is much better than the stock shifter...

87GT 306 - Lol...that is a SHORT shifter ...but if your money handling can spare it...I would buy a complete aftermarket shifter and not just the handle...because of the built in stops to prevent damage to the transmission and plus it is just one more "new" item on the car
