What should I be looking for in a place that does upholstery work? I have cloth seats now and have been thinking about getting some leather seat covers and having some place swap them out. I don't know anything about having this done, how complicated it is or anything, and I want to make sure that I am not going to take them to some place that will be a piss poor job or ruin them.

I already ruled them out since their closest location to me is an hour and a half away. I was asking for more of general guidelines of what to look for in a place rather then a direct endorsement.

If you are going to try and have it done locally than look at previous examples of their work. Personally I would rather drive the hour and a half rather than risk putting my car into the hands of someone I am not already familiar with.

Sounds reasonable but how do I see examples of their previous work? Just go to them and ask? I am sure they aren't going to show me examples of stuff they have screwed up. I watched a segment on Horsepower, on Spike TV, where they changed the seat covers of an older Mustang and it didn't look too hard to do. I doubt an experienced person wouldn't have any problems doing. Maybe I should just take it to a Ford dealership with a service department and have them do it. I wonder what a reasonable price for having this done is. I called two places, one said it would cost $225 and take two days and the other said it would cost $285 and could be done in one day.

Maybe I am confused. Are you talking about just having a local shop install seat covers purchased from a place like Classic Soft Trim or are you talking about having a local shop make the seat covers and install them? Sam and Dave from Two Guys Garage did not make those seat covers. Installation is no big deal and you could probably do that yourself.

I know that about 2 Guys Garage / Horsepower. I am just looking for a place to do the work of installing them. I guess I could try it myself on the non-driver's side seat and if not happy with the results then take them somewhere and have it professionally done. I am just worried about damaging something. I wish I had taped that 2GG episode where they did that. I know he was spraying the foam with some stuff and did some extra stuff.
