What should i buy first to make my mustang faster on a low budget?

I'm looking to spend around $800 on my 94 Mustang GT 5spd, ive been thinking about spending it on gears (3.55 or 3.73), a intake (cobra or gt40), pullies and a cold air intake. I figured i could afford that if i get a used intake.
I was also thinking about instead spending that money on headers, hpipe, and cat back... What do you guys suggest doing? o, and one more thing... i know this is off topic, but what motor oils do you use in your mustang, i just recently got the car so i will be changing it for the first time and im not sure what to use.

Gears and a intake will suck up most of the $800, unless you know how to install the gears yourself. Those would be my first choices.

I would do the Intake, and the gears first, as i have found when you are on a budget it is easier to do the smaller things that are like 100$ after the big stuff u know like in between paychecks etc. Then after the intake, gears you could do like pulleys >100$ or a cold air intake you can make as so many of us on here have done!!!!! ask for pics and you shall receive

i'd say go with a set of gears first, next step will be the intake if u can afford one with ur budget , if u don't go with pulleys, air intake or save the money for later to buy heads/cam/injectors ect.

Here is your order:

1. Gears (3.73--you won't be disappointed)
2. Intake Manifold (Edelbrock performer or Trick Flow Street Heat)
3. Pulleys, with your left over dough
4. Exhaust (could be switched with No. 1)--this means midpipe, mufflers
5. Skip the CAI, unless you make it yourself. At this point, you can do the support mods, like MAFs and Throttle bodies and headers.


I use Mobil 1 synthetic in my car, and I recommend it to everyone. It is one of the best choices for synthetic available, period. Not to mention it is cheaper than the so-called "best" synthetics, Amsoil and Royal Purple.

Basic Tune-up. Which should include Air Filter (K&N), Mortorcraft stock Spark plugs, Mortorsport ignition wires, Cap and Rotor, PVC Valve, Fuel Filter, and pour some injector cleaner in the gas tank every other gas tank fill up.

3.73 gears!!!

As far as the oil use a multigrade oil such as 5W30, 10W30 or 10W40.
I use Valvoline 10W40 in my high milage engine and change every 3 months or 3000 miles or less! Stick with well known brands such as Valvoline, Castrol and you'll be fine.

If you do oil change yourself don't forget you have two drain Plugs!
If you have someone else does the oil change make sure you tell them about it!

HAHAH, no shi*t. I second that. First time I did mine I had to call about five people to figure out why only about a quart of oil came out of my car. VERY good point.

I went went with gears ( 3.73 ) first then o/r H pipe get rid of those restrictive cats you'll be glad you did. If there is money left over a short shifter makes driving the car even better.

already got a b&m short throw shifter came with the car, but lol thats like the only thing thats done to it, other than that its stock. mytight95 can you please show me pics and directions on making a homemade cai?

You could also advance your timing to about 14* thats free, down side is that you must use 93 octane and prices seem to be increasing weekly. That mod is free to keep the mod from pinging is what going to cost you $$ at the pumps.

Keep your stock headers and go with an off-road H-pipe, $109 from Pacifica Performance. Underdrive pulleys ~$90, 3.73 gears, then see if you can get a used intake off E-bay or a Cobra intake from a junyard.

Almost forgot, K&N air filter was one of the best bang for the bucks I put on my car, only about $35

you can do pullies, Gears, and an Intake for $800 if you can find a someone to put the gears in for you or not charge you alot for it. Skip doing the CAI, its the biggest waste of $150 if your looking at making more power. Use the $150 and put it towards a bigger Pro-M or C&L Mass air meter. I gained 21 RWHP w/ a C&L 76MM System and a Cobra Intake.
