I planned on starting to mod my car, but *@&% California has a different idea.

I have called around and talked to tons of sales reps, nothing seems to be legal here. According to everyone I have talked to, the parts will pass "emissions" but not "visual" inspection. Therefore they are not legal.

I didn't know that the looks of my car could pollute the environment.

Does anybody know what I can do, i want about 300rwhp.

Thanks

+1, 3.73 gears, and a roots blower=fun!

I'd bet you can find a used one around if you take your time.

I will start looking for used saleen supers, but I did some research on the CARB website and found out the Kenne Bell supers are Cal legal. However, only 6psi kits are legal. Could I get away with a non-intercooled 6psi kit and still make decent power? Cus if I can't really go higher than 6psi, is the need for a intercooler? I know it would help, but can the extra 1k be justified?

Thanks

You don't need the intercooler at just 6psi. You could even up the boost from 6 psi, but you will need higher octane and maybe a little less spark advance to keep the knock at bay.

Check out the KB site for the 96-98 Cobra 2.1 kits. They don't come with an intercooler and KB shows you how to up the octane so you can up the boost. Of course a 2v knocks a bit easier than a 4v with otherwise identical setups.

If I go non-intercooled with higher boost, should I look into water/meth kits? Does anyone run a water/meth kit?

Thanks

People do it and there are a few companies out there who can answer your questions. Try doing a search; lots of info out there.

The green idiots may hold the authority but they definitely don't hold the brains. They fail to realize that nearly all NA performance parts that raise power levels also reduce emissions, and increase fuel efficiency at the same time.

As for what you can do, there is plenty of stuff that won't have any different an appearance than stock. Trick flow heads, and a set of stage one cams will not be noticeable and should pass any emission test provided they have a good tune. Believe it or not, 24#, 30#, 36#, 39#, and 42# injectors have been productions pieces and are perfectly legal, so fuel shouldn't be an issue either.

Also there is a ton of stuff that has C.A.R.B. exemption orders out there. Most superchargers actually fall into this category. Howerver no aftermarket turbo that I know of has one. Same goes for most exhaust pieces....even mufflers.

There is another solution, you could always move to a state that isn't run by a bunch of #()<!<tards and register you car there....Just saying. Don't get me wrong, I was born in California, I am sure a bunch of good people live there still.....they're just not the ones who get to make all the great decisions that California leadership is reknowned for.

Well to start with, get gears. 3.73s if you are going to go blown, 4.10s if you are going to stay NA.

The KB 2.1 9psi intercooled kit is CARB legal. I know because I have one and it comes with the sticker to put on the blower. The vortech kits are also legal.

On another note you can make good N/A power and still pass emissions. There are stage 2 cams and ported heads. You could also get some of the new TFS heads and you shouldnt have a problem.

Well I wish I was a millionaire, hopefully someday. I live in a smallish coastal town. The people (most of them) are great and the roads are great too, nothing like taking a drive down or up highway one on a sunny day.

I try to stay out of smog city, i mean L.A.

Just the bureaucrats are too busy looking for the next endangered bug or animal that no one cares about except for them to know what they are really doing.

Have you ever been here?

Well, I kinda have two places, not to add to everyone's thinking that Californians are loaded.

I jump between a house up in the Bay area, above San Fran about 20 miles and a place located on the central coast, in a town called San Luis Obispo.

id say move. i did 10 years ago and dont regret a thing. if i feel the need to i can pull my motor build a 5L blown intercooled with every aftermarket part known to man and drive it where ever i want. ive had several job offers to move back. one came with a house a 25% pay insentive, a paid move and about 15 bucks an hour more. but its still not worth it. none of my cars down to my h2 would pass out there. F the hippie tree huggin bastards j/k

btw midnight2v where in okie are ya?>

You'd be surprised how many people make that commute. You'd also be surprised how many stupid things you see people do or try to do on that stretch of I-35.

But the good thing is you can do anything you want to your car in either state. Lots of good places to get your toys taken care of.
