What Size Combution Chamber On Aluminum Heads?

Man you guys crack me up. Anything you do meaning in chamber size changes, does change your compression ratio. Sometimes i read these post and hust wonder where you guys come up with some of this stuff. Even doing all the math taking in to account piaton compression height, combustion chamber , deck height etc. All this effects things. Going from a 58 cc head to a 64 cc head will lower compression.
Be honest.....you're not really a Tech a www.bieberfever.com are you. You're just the guy that sweeps up the shop afterwards? ;)
 
No i am a tech there. Its just some stuff on here makes me laugh. Thats my opinion. Everybody voices theirs so im voicing mine. If the guy wants to do the math for 58 or 64 cc heads plan out both builds on paper. If the guy wants to know i will give him thw crap to do it. I think that would be more helpful to someone and guude them through it that way, instead of arguing which size head to use. That way he can make the choice based off the numbers he gets and what he wants to do with the car.. im tired of everything on this forum turning into a pissing contest. If i offended people im sorry. I just think that would be more of a help to someone like this guy versus others that already know how to figure this stuff out for our own builds past and present.

There’s voicing your opinion, then there’s coming off as a smug elitist. This is probably about the 3rd time now in the last 2-weeks that I’ve seen you apologize for the way you’re “coming off”. If you want people to stop questioning your credibility, try not sporting the attitude you do and instead of reminding them how dumb you think they are and throwing it back in their face when you believe they’re wrong explain yourself and show them why you think your right.

Apologies carry little weight when you’re making them over and over again for the same offence. As for you claimed expertise…well, whether you know your stuff or not is still up for debate and quite frankly isn’t the point. You’re not the only one here who’s put together and engine. Rick has probably built and worked on more high powered engines and cars than you’ve ever seen. And seems to walk away with more happy customers than I’ve seen anyone else on this board do in the 10-years I’ve been a member. So take that into account before “cracking up” too badly over another person’s opinion.
 
If not a dyno tune at least a chip burned to raise the limiter. I've done the math in a few of his threads for compression, on a stock piston the 58cc head will limit the cam profile, the larger chamber will allow a more aggressive profile with longer duration and overlap which he will need in na form or on the exhaust side with the n2o to take advantage of what the cnc tfs head can offer.

Work with a builder to meet your needs and goals, they can set you up with all needed correct parts.
 
One of the HUGE benefits of aluminum heads is that they can run more compression on the same fuel octane.
Why would you get aluminum heads and not take advantage of that?
The only reason I could imagine using larger chambers, lower compression, is if you are adding boost.
Otherwise you have the chance to run an additional point of compression, without using higher octane fuel.
Why would you pass that up? Why pay for aluminum if you aren't going to use it's major positive feature?

Nicely said. My deleted post on the previous page was longer and less forgiving which is why I deleted it. I also didn't want to start a pissing contest which would derail this thread completely.

There is voicing your opinion and then voicing your opinion while crapping on someone elses. Rick91GT and SRTTHIS disagree with each other but they aren't bashing each other over the head while they are doing it. Both gave information to support their arguments and let it be.

To the OP, I would also call the machine shop/engine builder to see what their opinion is as well. A lot will weigh in on what your future plans are. Many folks on here have spent money on parts and rebuilds that lasted a year or two then spent the same or more money for the same upgraded parts. All in all, I believe what Rick is saying is, what is your end product? Don't do something twice if you can afford no to.

Many times I do things this way but that is because I get what I can afford and if I can upgrade later then I do so. Just the way I am but I see a side for both arguments. Good luck.

I still have not seen an answer to my question.. WHAT IS THE FUTURE PLANS WITH THE CAR? I remember in another thread you throwing out boost, stroker or N2O down the road. You could mill them to 61cc as well...

With the 58cc head on a stock piston using a decent sized cam, yes you will have PTV issues. Your best bet is to stock with at least a 61cc chamber. If you would like to keep the compression up a bit talk to Fox Lake or total Engine Airflow and have the 185cc heads milled to the 61cc chamber.

i will probably leave it n/a for a while till my bottom end goes, then either stroke it out and put better pistons in and possibly add some n20, or boost.

That makes no sense.
No matter the size of the chamber, the angle/placement of the valves will always be the same in the head.
Just because the chamber is cast larger/smaller, doesn't mean the valves are closer/further in relation to the pistons.
Once the casting process is done, and you start milling the head, then you could make that case...
Even then though, the amounts are so minor, it won't make a difference unless your valve lift was already so high it was questionable. There is also 'angle milling' to negate any effect.
 
I had assumed based on that comment that the 58cc head is a milled down version which put the valves CLOSER to the piston, otherwise yes you are correct. If that is not the case then it will not matter at all........it purely comes down to what the OP does in the future.
