what size fuse for 150 amp alternator

i'm in the process of installing a 3g 150 amp alternator in my 86 gt. i've wired it like jrichker suggests. what size fuse should i use? i'm using 4 ga wire

How long is the run of cable? It will probably be the weak link in the power chain (fuse for the weakest link).

the cable length from the alternator to the fuse is about 7 ft then only 4 inches to the starter solenoid

I would try to use a 125 amp fuse, as 4 AWG is good for around 130 amps at the distance you require. It would have been better to use 2 AWG, as that's more appropriate for the hypothetical load, and allows the circuit protection to better match the alternator's output.

i just installed a 130 3g and used a 125amp circuit breaker about 16 inches from the alternator. I used 4 awg
