what spindles am I limited to?

what spindles am i limited to? im doing a 5 lug conversion, and brake upgrade. what im wondering is if i can only use the 94-95 front spindles, i took the braked off of a 2002 or 2003 with the dual piston PBR's and i know they bolt up to the 94-95 spindles, but if i can use the spindles off of the donor for my brakes i would rather take them (they are at a junkyard that has this car indoors) and they look to be in much better shape. i may take the rearend out of this car as it is all there disc to disc if it would bolt up. thanks guys, and as always i appreciate your help, and not judging me beeing so wet behind the ears on my mustang questions!.

the newer spindles will bolt up, but the geometry will be screwed with a fox. they'll push the wheels out enough to cause clearance issues (can be corrected with the right offset), and the steering arms in a bit of a funky place. the 94/95 spindles are just a better option, though youll probably have to take the grinder to them for the newer calipers (no big deal though)

The 99-04 rear ends are wider too. They can work, but you'll be limited on wheel choice,

You are better off taking all the brake hardware, the axles brackets, etc, leave the axles shafts, and go find axles shafts from a 94-98 mustang. Then stick it all into your rear.

Well then get 5 lug fox lenth axles the adapter backing plates 94 and up cobra calipers with brackets and cobra discs!Thats what i didnt,should only set you back about $500ish. peace

what will i need to be grinding on with the newer calipers? i thought they fit the same...

just a bit of clearance, the pbr's are just a tad too big for the 94/95 spindles, i havent done it (ironically, the 13" cobra stuff fits fine ), but it is minor, a quick look finds this: Ford Mustang: Mustang Tech: Brakes: Low Budget PBR brake upgrade

The clearancing is very minor and easy to do. Just test fit the calipers to the spindles first and you'll see what needs to be removed

Maybe it's my misunderstanding, but I **just** did a 13" Cobra brake swap using 94/95 spindles and the 2 piston aluminum calipers had "Cobra" molded into the side and said "PBR, Made in Australia" on the top. They fit fine. No grinding necessary.

They stop my LX like I slammed into a brick wall.

the 99-04 "plain" pbr's are different from the 94-04 13" cobra pbr. the pistons on the "plains" are slightly larger, and its mounted closer to the hub, hence why the earlier spindles need the grinder. using a 94-98 iron caliper, you wouldnt need to.

ill be off to the junk yard to look for some spindles this week, 94/95 seems to be the winner with a little grind work. ill let everyone know if i find anything, and post up some pics when im done. thanks again for all your help!

Cobra pbrs bolt right on

The gt/v6 pbrs on the 99-04's require slight mod to the 94-95 spindles since theynsit closer

if you could find 94/95 spindles i recommend using them.. i had the 99/04 spindles and i had alot of fender rub. it became very annoying.

another thing i forgot to ask about, i picked up the rotors with my calipers off of the 02 mustang, will those rotors work with the 94/95 spindles?

Yes, those are the same rotors that any Gt/V6 cars use from 94 through 04.

And I hope this doesn't come off as thread-jacking, but I was wondering if anyone has done a 99-04 spindle on a 4-eye Mustang? Since I know the k-members on these cars are a little narrower, does this mean I have a lot less fender rubbing to worry about?

I installed a 94-95 spindle on my 82 and the wheels seem to sit in a little. I was hoping the spindles would make my front wheel stick out a bit more.
