Did they give you a reason for the removal of your taillights?

Some states/cities require a red lens be visible. Of course, the laws vary from state to state and city to city.

yea the cop stopped me for my illegal window tint in Pa and when he got behind me he saw the smoked tails and he said in the state of PA you have to have a red lense no red bulbs are allowed. he did go upfront to look at my smoked headlights but he left them go and gave me 10 days to get rid of the taillights i just have my stock GT's on for now but they look like total Sh**

These are my LX lenses.

Go with the LX tails, buy the OEM Ford lenses though or you will run into problems.

KRS makes the knockoff lenses, and I will tell you now to spend the extra money on the Ford lenses.

http://www.ksreproduction.com/

KSR has quality issues with their tooling and the reflectors on the LX tails have these large half circles in the reflector.

You can't see them, but when you shine light at them the circles appear as black holes in your reflector.

The Ford lenses are a bit more in price, but you won't want to have crappy looking tails anyways.

I'll post pictures on the KSR lenses in a while.

I'd definitely go with the LX's. They make the car "pop".

There are a lot of laws about head and taillights, which a lot of people misunderstand.

The laws are federally mandated safety equipment. This means all 50 states follow the same rules. A vehicle needs to meet these rules just to be allowed to drive in this country. Automakers must design their cars to meet them.

For taillights, they must have reflectors that can be viewed fron the side and from the rear. They must reflect RED light. No other color is legal. The non-reflective lenses don't need to be red, but when the lights are on, the bulb/leds must produce clear clean unobstructive red light. The turn signals need to be amber or red in the rear and the reverse lights need to be white. Lisence plate bulbs must be white.

Up front, amber reflectors must be present at the side corners. This is why clear corners are illegal. Parking lamps/turn signals must be amber and no more than 4 forward facing white lights can be present. Light also must have a certain minimum spacing between them. That's why the '68 shelby's center fog lights were discontinued after 1 year. They were made illegal. All these guys converting to center fogs on their 05+ are technically running illegal setups.

Taillight or headlight blackouts are 100% illegal. They block the turn signals. A lot of guys say they are legal in the day but that's BS. They are illegal 24-7

If you get rear-ended with modified taillights (smoked, tinted, all-white, etc) you can be found partially responsible if someone catches it.

yup...things are done for a reason....car companies put tons of research and development into their lights and keepin them some form of stock on these older cars is the way to go...just plain looks right and good

I believe that if they're not DOT approved, that makes them illegal.

I switch back and forth between the non-striped Cobra's and plain LX's. I never can decide which ones I like better. I have the Cobra's on now. With your car, I'd go with pinstriped Cobra's with the grey center piece painted to match your car. Basically, the ones in washmycar's last photochop.
