Not that my car is running right anyway right now, but what should my coolant temp be reading? After I've driven the car around a little but it will get as high as 220* (autometer reading). Isn't this a little high?
I barely get above 100 on my autometer gauge. I know the gauge works becuase I had a coolant hose break and it went up to almost 250. Is there something wrong if it is only at like 110

Must be nice to have that kind of weather. Its raining and 40* here. Anyway, I'm thinking mine is a little high. What can I do to correct this? Don't a lot of you guys swap T-stats to help the car run a little cooler?

Check out your sending unit. Mine was bad from summit and showed me running at 50 degrees. A new 10 dollar sender and magic.
Red94.....As long as your fan kicks on at 220 and runs back down to under 200 then no big problems. If you want you could switch to a 180 Tstat but no hurry.
Get a 180* Thermostat in there if you don't already have it. You have to be especially careful when your car has aluminum heads because they can warp a lot easier than iron heads. Especially with an iron block and aluminum heads, different cooling rates. 220* is defitiely a little high. Wire up a manual fan switch for the time being.
