So i finally get my car running last week. I took it for a test drive and the clutch wasnt grabbing enough. So i went to adjust it and my firewall clutch adjuster wouldnt work. So i figured ill take it to the garage up the street. I just did the rack when i did the engine and went to put steering fluid in. I turned the wheel and the rack went pop and i had steering fluid all over my freshly redone engine. So i get it to the garage had them do some stuff because im sick of it already. The guy worked magic with my car and everything was how i wanted it. Now for the bad part i went to show the car to a friend and the car drove fine. I go to leave his garage and i couldnt get the car into reverse for the life of me it was really hard. I pushed my car so i can pull out in first and every gear was hard to get into except 3 & 4. Is my transmission shot or does it need to be sycronized. And is there a place anywhere on the car to add tranny fluid? Also i once had a blazer that had the same problem we replaced the slave cylinder and it was fine could that be the problem if my car has one? If i diddnt dump so much into the engine i would sell the car. :nonono:

Your clutch wasn't grabbing hard enough before, well now it looks like it doesn't want to let go.
I'd say you clutch is still not adjusted right. A slave cylinder is on a hydralic clutch system, but your is a mechanical (cable) clutch.
If the car is turned off, and it is still hard to get into gear, you have a different problem. But if it only happens with the car running, then it is the clutch.

try to adjust it so that there is just a smidge of freeplay in the cable. if that works, you can dial in the 10 pounds of cable preload that many like to do.

it sounds like now your clutch is not disengaging. what is the pedal doing? is there a lot of freeplay (should be)? if you do get it into gear, where is the point of engagment on the pedal. should be real real near the bottom.
BTW, the trans fill hole is on the pass side of the trans. you will see a plug with a female receptacle that will accept a 3/8" ratchet wrench nub-thing-a-majig...it will make sense when you see it.
give more info or try some stuff and let us know. good luck.

The clutch is grabbing right at the floor. It shifts fine when the car is off. And forget about reverse i have to push it to back up or turn the car off and put it in gear.

if it is grabbing that low (deep into the pedal), i would take the slack back out of it. get it so that there is just a smidge of freeplay in the cable (so that you can just make the cable move laterally a tiny bit with your pinky finger).

you should be fully disengaging the clutch with it like that, while giving you full pedal travel to disengage the clutch. it sounds like your clutch may be shot. how long have you had it in there?

Its a Brand new clutch i put in when i bought the car. Maybe the tranny fluid could be low or maybe the transmission is shot i think. If it is there will be a car for sale j/k ill go tremec.

The clutch needs to be adjusted.
It should grab half way thru its travel, not near the floor.
Tighten up the cable, and you should be happy with how it performs.
The clutch should not be toast yet.

Edit: I doubt the tranny is shot. If it was low on fluid, it would still shift. But it would make more noise, and not work very well. But it would still shift from a stop. It must be the clutch.
