Oh, almost forgot,VTEC stands for Variable Timing and Lift Electronic Control System. They just skipped over a few words and used VTEC. I guess they thought VTEC sounded better than VTALECS

Whoops!! I guess I'll have to start proof reading my posts before I hit submit.
Thanks for catching that. I better get some sleep before I slip up again.

My best friend's CRX has a DOHC VTEC swap... with his tune you can really feel it pull when it kicks in, sounds mean as hell too

Sadly, if Honda comes out with a V8, I'm thinking I may have to buy it.

Somebody correct me, doesn't the VTEC initiate when the car is started just like our EEC does? I didn't think it was something that "kicked in" at any designated rpm.

VTEC is always "on"

Its operated by a solenoid that changes the cam lobe at higher RPM's.... for example my friend's switches to the high lobe at 4000 rpm. They use the smaller lobes down low still because thats your "economy" setup... a good driver won't leave VTEC during a race.

My cousin has a 2000 Prelude and you can definately tell when it hits VTEC. He also has a VTEC controler which allows him to adjust at what rpm he wants VTEC to kick in (aswell as fuel curve and timing)

For the record, I owned a 1996 Honda Accord with "VTEC." The Absolute worse piece of crap I've ever owned. I had to take that POS Rice bucket back to the dealership 6 times to get the valves adjusted because it sounded like a 86 VW Diesel.

I would never purchase another honda. Hondas are overrated and gutless cars. They are ok for commuter cars, but if you want a race car, look elsewere.

I do not understand you kids that go out and purchase an economy box civic, stip it down, do an engine swap and put stickers on it and think you have a fast car. Why not start out with a use Mustang or Camaro, mod it and have a faster car.

It is easier to make a fast car faster than it is to make an economy box fast.
