Perfect time to upgrade to HID set up, I had weird dimming headlight thing going on at idle and gas it and it would go way, i got sick of it and put HID in there,

I suggest you use OEM ballast and bulbs for Porsche, Cadillac, BMW, Audi or even a Ferrari(Valeo) , They are not that expensive and i made to fit one to my car, I had it for over 4 years and NO PROBLEM what so ever!

If you need the pair of ballast and bulbs, let me know i do have a set i was going to put in my 96

how much would you sell them for? Do you have to modify anything to make them fit?

Problem fixed. Went to NAPA, bought a set of stock bulbs for a 94 Mustang. Put them in...no more flickering. Works for me.

if that fixed the problem, a relay would probably have fixed the bulbs you had in there. if your happy then thats all that matters.

problem is not fixed. It started to do it again on the way back from NH last night. It took a lot longer then w/ the other bulbs but it still did it. NOT GOOD since it was getting dark. I would have to shut the head lights off and after a short while could turn them on again. I did this about 10 or so times then all of a sudden they just stayed on for quite a long time. I thought I was all set. I got off the interstate grabbed some chow at Micky D's b/c I was starving and continued on my remaining 10 min drive home from there. I got 2 miles from my house and it started to do it again.


Could it be a bad head light switch?

POSTS 2,3,4 all said head light switch. Did you ever look at the pigtail going to the switch? Mine was melted pretty bad causing my dash/ tail lights not to work unless I smacked the dash.
Maybe the melted connector is on your h/l circuit and the arching is causing the lights to flicker.

Yeah I know but once I posted that I had aftermarket bulbs the cause switched to something else. Im going to take a look at the switch and see what I find.

I took the switch out, all the prongs on the switch look fine. Looks like new actually. I took some pics of the harness. Does everything look normal?

Also can the switch be bad w/ there no visual signs of it being bad?

The circuit breaker in the switch could have been damaged by the old bulbs. If you have a spare switch, swap it in. If not, they are pretty inexpensive.

Lastly, if it keeps up, a relay on the low beams is an option.

Thanks hissing. I was looking them up online they seem to be about $20.00. I'll get another one and try it out. Its not that I drive it very much in the dark but the few times I do its nice not to have flickering head lights.

One last thought: if the headlight feed wire is damaged at the Multi-function (turn signal) switch, this could cause the breaker to trip (only because of the bad connection at the MF switch. The bad connection causes heat, which causes more resistance, and so on).

The blk/red wire goes to the MF switch, where power is distributed to either the low or high beams, depending upon where you have the turn signal lever positioned.

I don't know if you wanna check that first or just keep it in mind if a new switch doesn't fix things........

I called the local ford dealer. They wanted $51 for the switch. I got one off a site for $27 shipped.

I hope it fix's the issue. The only lights that blink are my head lights. I'll try the switch and if it still does it then I'll have to look else where.

well it appears as though the blinking head light issue is no more. I did a good amount of driving over the weekend w/ the head lights on and there was not blinking when I got to where I was going. Seems as though the problem was the switch. Thanks for the help!
