What tires provide the best grip?

With all the various brands out there (plus all the marketing to go with it) its tough for your average joe to understand what should be considered when choosing a good tire.

Tire size aside, what are some factors to look for?

Myself, I'm looking for a DOT rated tire with the best sticky compound available.

Any suggestions?

Are you looking for a good track tire or a good track/street tire?

If you are looking for a good track tire, the best is the MT ET Street Drag Radial.

If you are looking for a decent track tire that does well on the street. The Nitto 555's are good, from what I have heard.

Completely depends on what you want and how much you are willing to spend. Go to:

Spend some time reading the reviews and researching the surveys. They do not sell all brands, but their list is pretty inclusive. I can recommend the NT555s. They are a nice, inexpensive street tire. But their wet handling is not up to par with some of the competition. The best tires I have ever owned were Bridgestone S03's, but they are a little pricey. After I wear out the stockers on my '05 I will probably go with the new Kumho MXs. Just my $.02.

Best all-around tires i have ever had are definatley the BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW2. They have excellent dry traction and probably the same traction when its wet. If your looking for best grip however get the BFGoodrich Drag Radials.

Price is not an issue.

Yes, I'd prefer a tire I can drive by to work everyday, but on the weekends tear up the track, without needing to change those same tires.

So, so far I've hear Nittos, Mickey Thompson, and BF Goodwrench. Three seperate selections from three separate people. Anybody agree with any of those three, so that we can break the tie?

My friend, I live in Phoenix. We haven't had measurable rain in the area for almost 200 days.

I don't think it'll be an issue.

Goodyear Eagle F1s if you don't care about weather at all and if you are rich and don't mind changing them out ever 10k.

But, my vote is the BFG KDWS since those are what I have and I think they are pretty good all season tires (just make sure to drive reaaaaal slow in snow).

I have these tires and I agree. Dry pavement is great. Wet pavement sometimes feels even better than dry. Absolutely wonderful traction in both, expecially for the price. Snow rating is n/a, and that's definitely true. But if you're not going to run them in snow,

The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 seems to get remarkable reviews, but I have a question (that only a bonehead might ask).

Like most of you on the boards I am very interested in a strong launch to maximize the first 1/4 mile. But beyond that I like a car that handles well in the twisties. And am likely to be adding the ford racing handling package in the next 4 months.

So what is the best tire for both launch and handling. It would seem like grip is the key attribute we 're looking for?

I live in Bakersfield and generally we don't get much rain, and only snow in 1 of the last 15 years. So what do you all think and concerning size. I have 18 x 10 bullits in the back. What size? I'm currently running 275 40 18's along with 4.10s. I don't want to make a dramatic size change that will effectively alter gear ratio.

I have the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3's and I get great grip and traction
with them.They also have good tread wear too.

The MT DRs are the best gripping for the track. You do not want these for DD duty. You will only get 5k miles out of them. That is what I run at the track. If I were you I would use the BFG DRs. They do not have as much grip at the track. They are still very good and will last alot longer on the street. Just my .02
