What Tires Would You Run???

OK, the stang is no longer my daily driver (finally). As such, I can pretty much put any tires on it without worrying about wet traction (too much anyway). I live in Utah now and we get very little rain (we go months without it in the summer) and I will not be driving it in the winter (for obvious reasons).

So... with this in mind, what tires would you run???

I have 17x8s in the front and 17/10.5s in the rear (see my sig).

Thanks!

I run nitto 555R on my toy because they can last up to 12k miles but still hook better than any non-drag-radial street tire. You could run an MT, BFG or any other brand of drag radial, but you won't get more than 3-4k miles from any of them... IE once every oil change you'll be buying new tires. The nitto doesn't have the traction of the other drag radials, but it's still a huge improvement from any standard street tire and can last 12k miles. I've also had my nittos in damp conditions and they had a surprising amount of traction. However, I expect it wouldn't do so well in standing water or a bad downpour.

Uhh I run MT and my buddies I race with run BFG and MT DRs and we all can easily pull 10k+ miles with them. Unless you go to the track everyweeknd they are going to last well over 3k miles. I was going to the track once a month last year and I went 3-4 times this year on my MTs and its now time to replace them (2 years of driving and 15k miles on them).

I ran a set of Nitto DRs and they suked, I could never get traction with them on the street or at the stip. I ran them for a good year and put 7-10k miles on them and they have about 50% tread left.

If you only plan on driving the car on nice days and not as a full time DD then I would run MT or BFGs. They hook 100x better than Nitto DRs.

The m/t's are a pretty gnarly tire. I've even ran them. They hook very well. One ?, are you planning on boost soon? I noticed you compression is boost friendly but your sig doesnt say anything of it? Just wondering

Michelin PS2 :nice: They rock on the street, not sure about the strip. They are very soft and excellent for handling. They do a pretty good job with 447 rwhp and are great in the rain too. They will only last 20K give or take and they are pricey but they are great tires IMHO :nice:

Another vote for the michelins sport ps2s, possibly the sport cups if you wanna go autocrossing. They are stock on porsche gt2s and viper acr. But you will only get 10k out of them. For me now 10k miles would be like three years, I dont mind buying tires every three years.

Are the BFG and MT DRs good for handling? What about tires for the front? Thanks for the input so far!

I don't know about handling. I mean they are sticky. LOL

For the front tires I use Nitto 555s and I really like them. I also have a set of 555s on another set of rims so I can throw them on the rear if I have to travel far from home and there is a chance of rain.

Safety First! :nice:
