What to do about wiring

Hey guys im posting this for my neighbor. he is completely pc illiterate.

he recently bought a 66 coupe shell and it has no wiring at all. NONE and we need to know what to do about getting wiring and such for the brake lights,blinkers and stuff like that. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Easiest solution, but probably not the cheapest would be to order Painless Wiring's part number 20120. It's about $700 from Summitracing.com, but it's the complete chassis harness with a fuse panel. (Link)

there are a number of companies that have wiring harnesses you can get for reasonable prices and install them yourself. the indicated painless harness is a good one to get. you can also get a universal harness and custom wire the car. the nice thing about modern after market harnesses is that the wires are marked about every foot or so as to where they go, tail light, head light, etc. which makes running the wires easy. you just need to terminate the wires yourself. you can also order a custom built harness from ron francis. you just fill out their order form telling them what you need, where you want the fuse block, etc. and then send them a check for the harness and they will send you a complete harness ready to install.

Since you have nothing, the painless may not work since it seems you need to have the factory plugs to wire into it. If adding a lot of after market accessories, painless is ok. You can order all of the needed harnesses from NPD or other parts houses if you are looking for the stock style harness.

I am using a universal wiring harness, I got it off of ebay for $140, however it comes with no connectors except headlights and GM-type steering column, maybe a couple others...not a big deal to me since I can find plugs down at autozone or wherever, but I'm not trying for a concours correct restoration either

sorry been away for a few days guys. so the painless one needs some of the factory harness? yea this car has nothing. not the first wire or ligth in it. someone stripped it for a restore then sold us the body cheap after fixing all the rust issues.

can you guys give me the names of some of these companies?

I have the Ron francis system in my truck for the last 10 years without any problems. You still may want to consider original style harnesss. That wil allow using the Mustang wiring charts and color codes. On our '65, we went with factory harnesses but added a subpanel which is seperate from the original harness. I tpulls power in from the battery and has it's own fuse block. We have our accessories attached to this panel (elctronic trunk latch, electric door locks, power windows and remote entry along with other miscellaneous items) The origninal (new - repro) harness allows using original schematics for trouble shooting etc. If you do want to go after market, then I would strongly recommend Ron Franics.
