That shop screwed you for a gear install. I paid 200 for mine. Many shops charge 150-250 for gear installs. Stay away from repair shops and go with Mustang shops and 4x4 shops as they specialize in gears and are cheaper, or also find a buddy who can do them for a case of beer or something.

I thought the shop guys were your friends? For $600 they sure don't sound like it. I had all my gears done by Kaspers Korner in Blackwood near the College. They are a Mustang speed shop and very good. Cost me $250 for install.

Your hubby wanted you to get the tuner because he has an 05 correct? Those guys are all tuner and CAI crazy because their is a few hp to be gained but not on our cars. What works for his most likely won't on yours.

Thank you Bob and Blackfang, I actually stressed about this most of yesterday. Then last night I saw an ad in 5.0 for Motive gears for $158 to $169 and told my husband I screwed up (he said "no more mods until next august"). I said I know, but I still screwed up. Then this morning I had an email from mustangtuning that the badges I ordered at the same time as the tb are out of stock, so I emailed them back to hold the order til they come in. Gonna try to get the gears idea straightened out today. I'm hoping I can still get the tune changed if I do work it out, though.
Oh, and it's not so much the shop I use are my friends, I am just friendly with them, because I deliver parts to them. . I will try to find the number of that shop you used today while I'm on break and call them.

Get 4.10 gears and nothing less. 3.55's and 3.73's are a waste.

Well, it's just not going to work, the xcal was already shipped, and I just cant seem to get the price low enough for gears, didn't know I needed bearings and blah blah blah, but I stopped in at my shop and hung out for awhile and came up with I'm going to try to raise the money myself without making it known, and he will get my car in and out while my husband is at work and I just won't remember to mention it... Going to take me a few months to ebay that much crap, though.

OMG...this sounds like the beginning of a Jerry Springer story.

Yes a bearing overhaul kit is a good idea to put in if you have over 50k. Since you are already in there, mise well install some new ones.

definitely. theres no sense in doing the install then having to re-open the diff to replace bearings 10k down the road.
