I recently bought a bone stock 1994 mustang Gt with 80,000 miles on it, and the only things I have done so far is an exhaust system. I have about 1,000 dollars to spend what do you guys suggest I do with the money?

I am ok with going over a little!!

For $1000, I'd say get some gears installed which will be around $500 including the price of the gears, some underdrive pullies which are under $100, an off-road H or X pipe which is under $200, and maybe some lowering springs to get a better ride or a short throw shifter.

Depends on where you want gains:

Performance: gears ($400), intake manifold (cobra is fine) ($225), cold air kit ($60ish), underdrive pulleys ($100).

Handling: Springs ($150), Shocks struts ($300), Subrframe connectors ($200ish installed), Bushings or control arms (front and rear).

Brakes: Cobra front and rear ($900ish).

Then there is also tires/wheels... 17's are needed for the cobra brakes.

These are all some of my best/favorite mods to my car.

*Gears. Gears. Gears. 3.73/1 with a stick and 4.10/1 with an auto. Price should be in the (mentioned previously) $400-$500 range.
*If you're inclined to it, nitrous would give some nice gains and is really cheap (to start out.) $400-$500, depending on the kit.
*Off road H pipe won't give you much but it sounds cool.
*People tend to like the "cold air" kits. Again, won't give you much but it sounds cool. If you do it, get a cheapy one (under $50) off Ebay.
*Lowering springs. ($150-$200 in the classifieds.)

I can't believe I'm getting into the "looks/sounds" thing here! You gotta enjoy your car, though! (You're not gonna drop in a DSS bullet with an 8# Vortech and a T-56 tranny for $1000.)

If you're a smart shopper, you can get all this stuff for about $1200. (Less, if you buy used from the classifieds or Ebay.)

Have fun!

Send the money to me, I'll send you kick arse vids of my car in action. I'll be that much closer to a supercharger added to the current setup. :D

Modding is addictive. Gears are definitely the best first mod though.

thanks for the info, I guess gears are sounding like a good start.

I am working on an exhaust thats going to be 2 1/2 inch tubing with an off road X pipe, that after the split goes into some 50 series mufflers then dumps off before the rear axle.

it should sound pretty good

I got a set of gears as a gift (the last car part I ever asked for my birthday/xmas...well I did get a guage pod one year).

Got the gears installed $250, pullies $80 (mac), 14* timing, tune up, pieced together a N2o kit (less than $200) and bought a MSD digital6+ at $300 all for right under $900. Ran a 14.3 N/A and 13.1 @107 on a 125 shot.

If I had a set of ET Streets and some steel/v6rims I could have ran a mid/ high 12 for 1k...on a 100% factory longblock 94-95. Suprised a few people with that setup.

How bad is your suspension? If it's really tired, you might want to look into the FRPP Bullitt kit that comes with springs, shocks, struts, swaybars and maybe endlinks. Cost is about $500.

Gears for sure, but you gotta do subs (weld in only). Subs are $100 and any muffler shop can put them on. Make sure the car is on a drive-on lift, because the car's weight needs to be on all four corners.

I loved the Pro 5.0 shifter upgrade. More fun and better shifts.

Last but not least, spend about $8 on a negative battery cable about 14 inches long. Use it to replace the ground cable that goes from the block to the frame. You won't believe how many issues that will solve down the road. :)

Good luck!
