hey everyone looking to buy a 87-93 mustang gt,im kinda new to the mustang world but i know a few things about cars in general just wondering what major things to look for when looking at a stang...i almost bought one a year ago or so but the deal fell through so i need more input...thanks

look 4

i would look to see if it has what we call a pole kit. that is where it was wrecked then repaired by cut the front off and adding another and not doing a good job. check to make sure it still has the 8.8 in it and not a 7.5 . check the floors to see if they are broke and then they welded sub frame cont in to help it. the area where the rear end bolts in to the car torque box area check them to make sure they are not broke

I've noticed that Hatchbacks are prone to rust on the back of the hatch under the wing, like right above the taillights. I've also seen a lot rust right below the back window. Of course rust in these areas will be obvious so it should be an easy thing to check for.

The bodies are as flexible as a Chinese gymnast. If the car does not have subframe connectors then I would pay very close attention to how straight the body is. Look at the body lines and gaps (around doors, fenders, etc) for proper spacing and fitment. Have a good look under the car and pay particular focus to the torque boxes (where your control arms hook up to the body). These come spot welded and are a weak point, and it doesn't take much to rip them out! Also, try to find one that already has the basics done, like exhaust work and gears. You'll be saving a lot of money if you do. Good luck and welcome to the Mustang world!
