Nevermind, thought you had an 89. It's the 87-early 89 T5. 7T speedo gear

Tranny
Part Number 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th R Torque Capacity
lbs-ft Door Tag
Code

5-speed T5 (1987-89)7
E6ZR-7003-FB 3.35 1.93 1.29 1.00 0.675 3.15 265 2

7 - This transmission was also factory-fitted to late-1986 V8 Mustangs. The output shaft has a 7-tooth speedometer drive gear.

This is probably a newb question but whats the easiest way to find out what speedo gear is in the dash?

What are they called again? The drive gear and what else?

Math problem:
lets say I have the 7 tooth and the other one is the stock for my 87(whatever that is). My speedo is off by about 30%. What would that make my rear end gear be?

Too many variables to give an accurate answer. Especially since some of the speedos are just inaccurate already.

Theres another way to tell by jacking the car up and turning the driveshaft. I don't remember how but do a search for it. I think you count the revolutions of the driveshaft with the turn of the rear wheels?

Easiest way to check the rearend gear is to mark the drive shaft and mark the rear tire. Spin the tire 1 full rotation and then count how many times the drive shaft rotated? Then devide them and thats you gearing. peace
