I have to change the valve springs in the 205's so i can run a hydro. roller cam. Anybody know what springs would work well.. Im looking for a max lift of at least .600 I see that Trickflow sells an upgrade set for there heads. Would they work i wonder?

Im going with a hydro roller cam because the cam is cheaper, i already have hydro roller lifters, and i don't want to mess with adjusting the valves all the time.

Plans have changed... I thought i was going to win those heads on ebay and didn't... But i did call up Jegs and asked about there new heads with the 2.10 and 1.60 valves.. They aren't due in till the end of the month but im going to order a set of them... They are supposed to out-flow everythign on the market and i will get them set up for a hydrolic roller lifter cam.

I am going to do some more research on them before i buy though. I guess the onlything you need are special vavle covers..

You've got to run a stronger spring because the hydraulic lifter cam has a more aggressive ramp rate, which is more violent on the springs, causing the springs to not be able to control the valves, and they start to float.

After a quick search, I found that the springs that come on the 205 heads have 210 lbs. of pressure at the seat, with a maximum lift of .670". I was under the impression that 210 lbs. of pressure was more than enough for a hydraulic lifter camshaft. I'm probably wrong. I would talk to Ed about what you need. Probably something with 250 lbs. of pressure at the seat?

Joe, Its the other way around. Solid cams get more seat and open pressure. The hydraulic roller will collapse with that much seat pressure. The most you should run would be 160 at the seat and I think 350 open. And I would call comp cams and tell them what your doing and they will hook you up. I recently changed my AFR 185 springs to the beehive comp cams spring. My motor now revs past 5800.

Did you catch the MM&FF article by David Vizard? Comparing the 26918 beehive springs to the traditional 927's (I *think* that was the part#, don't have the article in front of me), the 26918's out-revved the 927's by 1000 RPM. He then went on to experiement with higher spring pressures, to see what it would take to equal the RPM ability of the 26918's, and found that the best he could do was increase the limit by 250 RPM, the 26918's still won by 750 RPM.... awesome!

Yes I did, That is what prompted my change to beehives and the fact that the AFR early springs suck A$$. I floated bad enough to break a valve spring shim. Found that part in a oil change hanging to my magnetic plug. Man what a difference, the car not only rans and revs better it also is a ton less noisy when idling. I am very happy with them so far I guess only time wil tell about there longevity.

Joe, those are the specs for the solid roller springs. From AFR the 205s/225s come set-up for solid roller camshaft...
