My car has a stock 95 cobra engine. I plan to eventually have the heads and intake ported etc, but right now I only have the funds to do the first part of my project which is suspension/rear end/paint etc.

I'll have a little bit of money left over after I buy the stuff for the first part of the project, but not enough to do the full H/C/I. I will, however, have enough left over to go ahead and get the camsaft alone.

Would a different camshaft on my stock gt40 heads and cobra intake give me much of a performance gain? I'm thinking about going with the trick flow stage 1 or something of that sort. Would it be worth it to go ahead and put the cam in while I save for the rest of the setup, or should I just wait and do it all at the same time?

Thanks.

Your stock cam is a dog, thats for sure. Would it be much better with an aftermarket cam? Probably.

But to put a camshaft in you have to take a part an awful lot of your engine. It will most likely cost you more in gaskets, fluids, hose replacing, and tools then it will for a trick flow stage 1 camshaft!

If I were you I would wait until you do the whole thing, do it once, then don't do it again. In the meantime, you could always retard the camshaft timing 2 or 4 degrees for a boost in top end RPM and power. You're going to need this stuff when you do the full HCI anyway.

Either wait, as Adam stated, or go with a custom camshaft to match the GT-40 and Cobra intake.

Having the lower of the Cobra ported is a proven power gainer for the dollars spent.

Edit: I see you are from Arkansas.

I know the stock cobra cam isn't very good for making horsepower and there is about 5-10 hp to be had by changing the cam but if your going to replace the heads later I'm not sure if I wouldn't wait till I got the heads to do the cam swap.
