What would be the signs of a loose clutch/flywheel.

I think I might have a loose flywheel. WHen I changed motors, I used my old flywheel bolts but did not put on lock tight. Just used them the way they came out of the old motor and torque them down to 80/85ft#s. I have a vibration form 2000rpm to 3000rpms everygear. But I do not have it at any other rpms. If the flywheel or clutch was loose would I feel it all the way thruogh the rpm range. So times I have this vibration and sometimes I don't. If I step on the clutch when this vibration is there it goes away sometimes.

So I am a lil stumped on what is going on.

id think you'd have some clunking coming from the bellhousing just by putting your foot on and off the clutch pedal. either way its an extreeeeemly dangerous situation and I'd definetly look into fixing it or even making sure that its tight just for good sake. if the bolts backed out and the pressure plate came loose all hell could break loose in there... I've seen video of a flywheel breaking a hole the size of a basketball through the firewall and up out the top of the car. just for good measure put a tiiiny drop of loc-tite on your bolts.

did you make sure your dowel pins were in the flywheel before you mounted the clutch? Very important to have those on the flywheel. If they become loose or fall out, that will cause major vibrations. Is your flywheel the correct balance for the "new" motor you dropped in your car? I had a problem where I needed a 28oz balance flywheel for my 327, and wound up getting a 50oz. Not realizing, I mounted it, and when I started the car, she had a bad vibration at around 2500-rpm's. That could also be your problem.

does it have a pilot bearing??

If you torqued your flywheel to 80-85 Ft#'s then you should be fine the problems lies somewhere else.

Yes it does.

I don't think it can make it through my SFI bellhousing but hey who knows.

Dowls are in. Balance should be right since I gave it to the machine shop with the crank, rods, pistons, and dammper to make sure it was all balanced.
