What would cause a rich idle smell?

My car is rich as Bill Gates at idle. Once I get the car running the smell goes away. I know I had said exhaust fumes on another post but after several noses, it turns out to be gas. So, how can I fix this? I already dropped my f/p to 37 but no luck.

If you were as rich as you think the car would be surging and stalling.

h/c/i + o/r pipe = smell.

But it can't be normal. I've got several buddies with more of a h/c/i combo and have no issues. BUT, they all have the a9l. That's a big hint to myself.

Get a wideband and find out what you're a/f really is. I'm with grn92lx, it's just the nature of the beast.

Smell your tailpipes & check your plugs..... that will tell you if you are rich or not.

Also did you ever determine if your Charcoal canister is disconnected or not?

Oh, and I don't have Heads or a Cam, but if I crank my fuel pressure up to high (to juice my car) my CEL light will randomly come on. Codes indicate the left and right banks are too rich. So you may indeed have problems other than being rich.

I guess the previous owner removed the CE bulb so I've never had a problem with that coming on. And no, the cannister is connected so I don't know what it could be. Can someone explain white(like burnt charcoal) plugs mean. Rich or lean?
