A local guy I met today has a 1965 coupe with the following done to it:

Beadblasted the ENTIRE car inside and out.. 100% no rust
Por 15 the interior and undercarrige
Sound deadener
Perfect interior w/ late model seats
Autometer gauges
Grant steering wheel
Nice CD player

Drivetrain:
4.6 SOHC
T45 5 speed tranny
9" 3.73 gears
31spline axles
new driveshaft

Suspension:
Mustang II Front suspension
Stock rear setup
reverse eye 5 leaf springs

Wheels:
Bullitt wheels w/ 245's all the way around

Body:
PERFECT... no rust
Brand new viper blue paint
shaved engine bay
custom trunk carpet

Fuel:
Stock tank w/ inline pump
steel braided line

Brakes:
Wilwood front setup
drum rear


This car is definately a restomod and in perfect condition. Its truely amazing the work that was put into it. He had some shop do it all, he just has the money. I asked how much he thinks the car is worth being that custom and he thinks its worth over $30k... Well, I dont.

How much do you think its worth

LOL...he paid for 100% of the work.. I figure its worth some money but not quite what he thinks it is. I think he might get $24k out of it on ebay for some schmuck that wants it...

he went thru a lot of expense to put in a weak motor and tranny. I'd offer 16k because all I'd want is the nice body and interior. The MII frontend would let me put a big block in it, so thats ok with me. Why he went with a SOHC 4.6 and T45 is beyond me. I have never been able to understand people who do that swap.

30k...definetly a possibility. It may be a little far fetched, but definetly feasible. Remember, vehicles on Ebay usually go for much less than if they were advertised locally. At least, that is what my experience has been. It is also hard to tell what condition the car is in without pics and without seeing it. I understand you said it was perfect, and it very well may be. A lot of the price will depend on any receipts that he kept, receipts for work done...etc. If he has $50k into the car....and has all receipts...I think you know where I am going.

Although, even with receipts and I am assuming he had someone else do the work for him. That shop should be checked out. You never know what kind of craftsmanship a shop or an individual does.

I think it would fetch mid to high 20s.

The Fuel injected 4.6 definetly adds a WOW factor for those people that do not deal with classic stangs on a daily basis like most of us here do. The T45 does the same thing. The mustang II front end is also very cool...NO SHOCK towers....again....WOW factor...and, people pay for that.

I tend to agree with Shane, if he had extensive pics during the restoration/modification, that would help a bunch as it allows verification. Is he wondering its worth to sell or for insurance purposes?

He was just bragging about it and I was listening. He just told me if he sold it, it would be worth just over $30k. I doubt he has pictures and everything so it will be hard to tell. It amazes me what people will pay for, check out the eleanor for instance.

Allcarfan: I definatly agree the MII and the modular setup definatly has a WOW factor. Not many cars running around like it and its definatly unique and custom.

302coupe: Those motors are definately not as strong as some of the windsor based motors but I know a couple guys running turbo kits and superchargers on their newer GT's layin down 450hp to the ground. You could have a 800hp 331 turbo motor but if you cant lay it down its worthless. Old mustangs like this just cant hold a wide enough tire without getting into the suspension and mini tubbing it.

I'd think he could sell it for $18-21K without too much trouble, assuming he can find the right buyer. Getting 30 is not impossible but I think unlikely for a coupe. Many nice restomods sell for less than the cost of their parts much less the labor that goes into them.

I'd Say about $24-25k, if it was a FB then I'd say about $35. And this is assuming everything is in top notch show quality shape.

What's it worth, or what's it worth to you? I wouldn't give much for it. It's just not my taste. If you like it, then it's worth what other people are saying here. Just don't expect to have an easy time selling it on if you get tired of it.

And I think that these days, things are pretty high like they were in the early 90s, and they WILL go down. No, nobody thinks they will. But gold was once double per ounce what it is now. Remember the dot.com craze? Etc. Bubbles burst, or sag. So just don't pay too much now. You might find the same thing going for 30% less a year or two from now.
