what's a 2 step, Is it a launch control for drag racing so don't stay for 30 seconds burning rubber? Excuse the ignorance, I just never heard of it before.
its a 2 step rev limiter, you set one where you want to launch(say 4000rpms) and one where the car redlines(say 6000 rpms) the first step is usually activated by a clutch switch..............

It is useful for consistent launches with sticky tires because the rpm at launch will always be the same. If you are bracket racing, they probably won't let you use it.
It is more useful on turbo cars. Because it cuts spark, it allows a turbo car to build boost while sitting still, without any load on the engine. You just run it up to 4000rpm or whatever limit, and the boost needle swings around to full boost. When the light is green, you leave with full boost.
