Whats a good supercharger for a 4.6 GT?

found their site, cheers.

Here's a question - I want to buy an American muscle pony car, however in the UK they are all rather rare. I have driven the 05 GT and love it, but would rather get more bhp so would a 99-04 GT with a kenne bell blower be a good alternative to an 03/4 Cobra?

Cobra's are very rare indeed, I've only seen one for sale @£28k, I should be able to get an 04 GT for about £12-14k which would leave me some money to spend on mods, such as a blower and exhaust.

What would be the better option.

dude,

where abouts over here are you ????

there are a few places over here to buy these things but very few places import parts for them.. im having hassle at the moment buying an ABS sensor...

drop me an email and let me know where you are, i can put you in touch with a few other guys in your area with stangs !!!!

Depending on the price of the 05 I might consider that car.

They have been proven to be quite fast with few modifications.

However, the snake has a built motor so can handle more power than either the 04 or 05 GT.

If you plan on adding alot of power you will have to build the motor in the GT and that will eat up alot of the difference between the GT and snake, not to mention the price of the blower on the GT.

I am happy with my 04 GT, but kinda wish I would have ponied up the cash to buy the snake up front.

you will mod whatever you get. The 03 -04 cobra guys want more hp and better parts just like us gt guys - so they change the blower, exhaust, shifter, heat exchanger, clutch, wheels, tires, add guages, etc and most, once they've upped the power and boost end up having to rebuild their engines as well. I had an 03 cobra and all though you are starting with more you still end up switching everything so why pay twice !
A 600 hp gt is more rare than a 500 hp pullied cobra ! (rare doesn't mean it's worth more- you just see less of them !)
So if parts are harder to come by an 03-04 cobra might be the way to go, add an upper pulley, tune, exhaust and cai and you are at 460- 480 rwhp - with the independent rear suspension, which will require some upgrading now due to your rwhp - but that is another story, again you will mod anything you get !

I'm not after the biggest bhp numbers just bigger, as the roads in the UK are tight and twisty I really want loads of low down grunt.

Looking at the Kenne Bell site they claim that their full 9psi kit on a stock 99+ GT with a cat back exhaust is producing 405rwhp, is this really likely? As they also claim a stock GT has 245rwhp (260bhp crank), that just doesn't seem to add up to me, according to the 15% rule 245rwhp would mean well over 260bhp crank.

How credable should I take these numbers?

before even looking at horse power outputs, what do you want?

You want a track car or a street car?
Do you want lots of low end or top end?
Do you want to run higher gears or lower gears.
Do you want a complete kit or a tuner kit(you can add parts you want)

Those are all questions you need to ask yourself before picking the blower.

I want a car that could be driven every day, is a really fast road car and will accelarate in any gear at any time but still be able to blast down the 1/4 mile when required as well as track/circuit days.

What I was thinking was a 2004 Mustang GT 5 speed manual
Kenne Bell reckon 3.73 gears are the best as 4.10's will over-rev the supercharger.
A custom cat back exhaust (duals with an x - pipe, would get this made anf fitted locally)
And the complete 9psi intercooler kit from Kenne Bell with the larger TB they offer and injectors, chip the lot

If it would produce what it claims then it looks like it should be a relativly cheap and simple option. To get some serious power, it may not be the fastest Mustang but it should at least level peg with stock 03/4 Cobra's but for a lot less money.

Then get the Kenne Bell. It will be more expensive but it is a complete kit and will give you power in every gear. I wouldnt get taller gears unless you plan on running wider DRs or even ET streets. Tall gears plus the torque out put of that engine+blower would mean a lot of wheel spin.

That is why I prefer taller gears and a Centrifugal blower.

ta, at a guess I assume you have somthing like a Procharger?

I don't think its the route I would go, but I'd be interested to see some numbers (hp/torque/ 1/4 mile).

I can def see the advantages of the centrifugal system (I would guess its similar to a turbo, have to wait for it to spool up to produce the boost), UK roads are usually quite tight and twisty and I would love a car that I could just stick in 4th and still have it pull like a train from down low. It would make it a very fast cross-country car. and GREAT FOR BMW BASHING :D :D :D

Actually I will be running Nitrous on a built shortblock.

The myth about turbo's and Centrifugal blowers is that you have to wait for them to "spool", that is false. On Centrifugal blowers, boost is a direct relation to RPM and air flow. Just like any engine, the more restrictive it is, the less boost you see. With a Centrifugal, the more RPM you pull or depending where you shift, the more boost you will see. Like at 5k rpm, you may see said amount but at 6k, you will see more boost.

This makes your low end less compared to a Kenne Bell( Twin screw) blower. However, it will give you the opportunity to run gears. Which is why they perform better at the track, most of the time. It gives you the ability to have the correct gearing.

With a Twin Screw, they produce a lot of low end sort of like a larger displacement engine. They are a little RPM limited but produce a lot more power.

Im pretty sure though that the ATI Procharger D1 flows more than the Kenne Bell does at the same boost but Im not sure.

When you said twisty roads I thought of the irs on the 03 -04 cobras, it would be real nice in that area. The hp numbers on kb's site are all acheived with the use of 100 octane race gas, which I do not think you will be running on your daily driver, so your numbers will be a littole lower. I have the 9 lb interrcooled kit with the big tube , tb upgrade and I love the kit.

yeah I think this will be the route to go (just need the damn money know  ). I know ultimatly the Cobra should be the better car but a nicly setup GT should handle pretty well too I guess. Also if my calculations are correct I should be able to get a low milage 2004 GT with exhaust, kenne bell and a few other mods for well under £20k all in. So it should save me a lot of £££'s over a Cobra or an 05 GT with a few bolt on mods.

As for fuel, I'll be running it on 95RON regular unleaded, which is about the same as 91-93 octane fuel in America. If it will produce around 400rwhp that will more than enough to dispose of 95% of the fast cars I'm likely to see on the roads.
