Whats a used C4 worth?

Just pulled it out (don't know if its a tech question or not, shrug... move it if it should be). Still shifts fine, comes with a shift kit and oil cooler. I believe its a 67+ model (based out the tailshaft OD, i could run #'s though). Includes stock flexplate, torque converter, shifter assembly, everything. Leaks a little. Ran for maaaaaaaaybe 10k miles since its been in the car since we got the car in 98, and thast probably really pushing it since it was only driven when I was home from college and never daily (no idea how many miles on it since last rebuild though). Been behind a stock or near-stock 351w the whole time.

Have no idea what a fair asking price is. Any input? I also have a rebuild kit for it... how much more might it go for if I rebuilt it and cleaned it up?

Used C4 Worth

I got a $150 for mine when I did the T5 swap in my '68. It was excellent working order.

Yeah, maybe $300 tops, unless you get lucky.

I sold one for 125 recently with torque conv and flywheel. never saw it working

Here in Arkansas

They are hard to find, cores are $100 at salvage yards and you cant find them even then. You should ask at least $200 with the extras you have.

I wasn't able to give 2 C4's away here in LA. 65fastbackresto too bad you weren't local, I would have given both of them to you.

you said that it leak where is the leak coming from? is the trany rebuild? and what is the count on the input shaft?(24 or 26) what is the stall on that conv.

That sounds about right. I have one out of my '68 just taking up space because it doesn't seem to be worth anything in its "unknown" condition. I wouldn't mind getting $100 for it including the stock flexplate and converter.

If you were here you wouldn`t have that problem I`m sure, I`d take em off your hands in a heartbeat if you wern`t 1600 miles from here.

You`d wouldn`t beleive the trouble I had finding one, not one salvage yard in the area (like 20 of them) had a c-4, and all I needed was a core to exchange for a rebuilt one. I would up getting mine at a place that buys scrap iron for $10 though in the end.

I'll try to get a count on the input splines and such when I get home. It hasnt been rebuilt since I've had it. Hasn't need it, and I think the P.O. said it had been rebuilt, but I can't be sure enough to advertise it and we've owned it since 2000 or so anyway even if the mileage is really low.

I'll have to check on the leakage too. I haven't bothered with it in a while, sorta just figured the steady leak meant that the fluid would just be replacing itself over time as i refill it and we stuck a piece of cardboard under the car to catch it haha. I seem to remember it leaking slightly from the pan gasket, but we did replace that and retighten and it still drips. I'll get back to you on both counts.

I've gotten a few strange offers on it, we'll see how it goes heh.

I just bought a good one from a guy here locally that did a T5 swap in his 68 fastback. Paid $150 for it. The one that sets the Stang C-4 apart is the floor shifter lever, it's 180* different from the column shifter model. The 157 tooth bell doesn't hurt either.

Whats a used C4 worth?
