Has anyone heard anything about future changes or redesigns to the current platform?

You want to know what's in it's future?

An affordable GT500, heh.

Right now muscle car buyers don't really have a choice. When the Camaro and Challenger hit the streets it's going to be an all new game, choice.

Especially when the SS and SRT versions of the aforementioned cars are available, muscle car buyers will have some competition and choices. Dealerships are going to see this hit their markups probably six months after those models launch.

Why should I pay $12,000 over sticker for this GT500 when I can get a Challenger SRT for only $4000 over sticker and still $7000 LESS.

My point is, as history has always shown, competitive products will bring the costs down for all. In the coming years we should see much in the same of relative prices and performance we saw in the 70s through the 90s in the Big Three muscle car era.

Maybe this time Ford can make a top end muscle cars that can truly compete with the power the other manufactures make, out of the box. Although I doubt it. HAR!

And you think right out the box these two other cars are going to go for only 4K over?

Now THAT's funny...The dealers are doing to milk this for all its worth, though that's assuming these cars really can deliver....

People thought the same about the new Mustang. In my area there was very little if any dealer markup on them. Maybe on the RT/SRT models there will be markup, but the base "GT" model wont have much, if any, markup I don't think. And hell, even if it had about 2-3k markup on it, it's still going to absolutely destroy the mustang stock for stock, I have no doubt about that.

It wasn't until the '05 Stang GT came out that we got 300 HP from the factory...something that GM was doing back in the late 90s. The Stang is always behind in the power department, but makes up for it in build quality(well this time may be different with as many of us are having problems/issues with the S197 quality). By the time the higher powered redesigned Stang rolls out I'm sure GM will already have the RT/SRTs on the streets to still lead that category.

what is in Mustang's future? $6.00/gal gasoline (or more), the second decline of the American "muscle car", market domination of foreign manufacturers, more production outsourcing to third world countries, the dissolution of the UAW, and American auto manufacturing too late in alternative fuel vehicle production. I love Mustangs, I love Fords, I love fast cars, but I find it comical given the current state of things that GM and DC want to throw addt'l capital into retro versions of the Camaro and Challenger. Unless, of course they can squeeze at least 30 mpg from them.

Thus one of the questions on the future Mustang survey of a possibility of a F/I V6 to power the GT...BOO, but I know times are changing and we must change with them.

GM was up almost 5% this quarter, Ford is down another 10% due to "no fleet sales" which is spin for the ship is sinking.

I think the future for the Stang is nothing changes. Just some minor mods but overall the last Stang dated back to 1979 and took 26 years for a redesign so besides some slight panel changes and 2434597 special stangs with fancy stickers on them, our stang will be the same for the next 10 years.

Yes, I believe the platform is here for awhile. Possibly only some minor cosmetic and engine changes which has been suggested for the '09-'10 release.

+1 I'm so sick of all the special edition stangs.

I read an article that maybe for model year 09 there could be a 5.0 3V V8? But this is just a rumor. I think putting a 5oh in it will do alot for sales because not only for the power increase but the name. But hopefully they would be a big bore block and not a stroker cause rod length is already to long compared to the piston diameter.

This could be the engine. Maybe a few tweaks and changes...
