last week or so ive been noticing water leaking from this part i uploaded on this thread. i dont know the name of it and im trying to figure out this problem. last couple of days ive been smelling anitfreeze heavily but havent noticed it running hot until friday evening. i was on the interstate and i heard a ticking noise as i pressed the gas at the same time. couple minutes later foxbody died on me in traffic, no water in radiotor and water leaking from behind this part....please help

pic could be better, but it looks like your thermostat.

I WASNT FOR SURE BUT THAT DOES SEEM TO BE WHY I WAS SMELLING ANTIFREEZE

Yep. Thermostat. Purchase a news one and a new gasket as well.

Use some RTV when installing it though. The gasket I used leaked really bad.

Ya those are a pain to make not leak.. Especially with the lower intake still installed

It's kinda hard to tell from the pic but it looks like the thermostat is also installed backwards.

Dude if your engine stopped and there was no water in the radiator, you have bigger issues than a coolant leak now.

I had a 302 in my 87 F150 that had a small leak and it emptied most of the rad... The motor got so hot it didn't idle... I didn't notice this until I was on the freeway (gauge was faulty). Long story short I replace the coolant and small coolant line that had a pin hole leak in it. The engine was also down a quart of oil. Let everything cool and topped the oil and coolant and she fired right back up and I put many more miles on it. I hope your engine is okay too... Fingers crossed, it's no fun when something like this happens...
