All these threads popping up within the last couple weeks or so about guys picking up a fox to daily drive or "I just got a fox and I'm using it as my DD"

I hope these guys love wrenching every single day, have the mechanical knowledge to extensively work on these cars and have lots of spare cash to spend.

try a lot. i daily drive my fox with no issues.

That's not always the case. Back in '07 I bought an '87vert project for $1400. I spent the next two years restoring it in "every" dept back to stock condition. (Except for paint color) I called it the "Heap" project. The car was nicknamed "The Heap"
I built it to share DD duties with my truck. I built that car with plans to use as my DD.

I pat myself on the back because it turned out beautiful and ran great. I drove it as my daily driver for over a year. Put 16,ooo miles on it as a DD. Once I put it into service all I bought was gas. No wrenching.
These cars are tougher and more reliable than you think.

Once you get an the bull replaced with quality parts, key word quality, they are quite reliable. Unfortunately there is a lot that needs replacing and it seems it all happens at once.

Ac is getting fixed on mine this year. Can't even enjoy a pleasure cruise at night without getting swamp ass.

I used to DD my LX back in the day. Very reliable. Yes things go wrong because these cars are getting older and have been abused. Sort through it and you have a reliable vehicle so long as you don't modify the crap out of it.

Keep it close to stock with some bolt on parts and drive it like an adult and you'll get from A to B and back no problem.

If you are paying 10k and getting 10k worth of foxbody and don't live where it snows, by all means go for it. I am just brutally honest with those people who want to spend 2k on a 25 year old fox. It sucks, I have done it in new england where owning even a 10 year old car can suck. Stuck in the snow, rust, water pump, intake not sealed properly, closed tstat, cracked timing cover, constant exhaust leaks, the exhaust drone zone. It sucks.

Pushrod Mustangs are really simple cars and don't take much to keep on the road honestly. Once you replace a few common problem parts they work fine. AC is a must in everything I drive. I used to drive $500 Ford Escorts around, but I always kept the AC going. I got very tired of changing timing belts on them. Thank god the timing belt disaster is over, and they don't use them anymore.

Yes I am.

I see it every year where I live, rear wheel vehicles sliding around all over the roads. They're loaded up with sand bags and studded tires and still have trouble starting from a stop and making it up hills when the weather is bad. I see them stuck at stop signs where it's an incline to start again. Front wheel drive is pretty good however 4x4 or AWD is the best bet as well as being a skilled and patient driver.

So far my little front wheel drive Mitsubishi has been good to me. Drove to work in a Blizzard in January.

My guess is the guy buying a $2500 fox for a DD is what he/she can afford and is looking for the "coolest" ride one can find for the $. But yeah it kinda sucks, I did it awhile but I wouldn't again now that I'm married w kiddo.

I feel pretty much the same, I put some All Terrain tires on my 01 4x4 Escape snow hasn't been a problem since.

Stock fox bodies have a hard time staying planted to the road in dry weather, couldn't imagine driving one in the middle of a snow covered winter. Yikes.

I just can't take customers and vendors to lunch in a 20+ year old car....or a Mustang for that matter.
