Wheel paint

I have a 2003 GT with stock wheels. They appear to be painted. Does anyone know what is underneath the paint? Years ago I had a supra that I stripped the paint off of the wheels and the metal underneath poilshed up nicely. Has anyone tried this?

you have the 5 spoke silver rims?
Yeah, they are painted like the body panels are with a base coat and a clearcoat.
I think they are aluminum alloy underneath, and would not look very pretty at all once the finish was stripped.

Thanks...I thought that may be the case. I figured I would ask the opinion of others cause there was only one other way to find out, and It could have been a disaster...
