I'm still having a tough time trying to figure out what size wheels/tires to get. I know I want anthracite bullitt replicas, either in 17" or 18". I have a few options and I don't know which one to go for. Looks and tire/wheel cost factor the most into my decision.

1) Get 2 17x10.5's, 2 17x9's, 285/40/17's for the back and keep my stock 245/45/17's for the front
2) Get 2 17x10.5's, 2 17x9's, 285/40/17's for the back and get 255/40/17's (or bigger) for the front
3) Get 4 17x9's, and two 275/40/17's for the back
4) Get the 18's and spend a ton on tires, but get better looks.

I'm leaning towards #1, 2, or 3. My main concern with option 1 and 2 is that the tires won't bulge out of the 17x10.5's enough. I definitely don't want to go with 315/35's. The car has never been drag raced, although I may do that once or twice in the future.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

It costs more for tires but nothing beats 18's. I got them for 415 from AFS Wheels New on one of their EBay auctions
Tires were about 160 each plus mount/balance

I went through the same exercise and wound up keeping the Bullitts, but put Toyo ZRs (sniped for better traction) on my '01 convert. They look nice, the cost was not too terrible and the tires hold real well. Got 'em at Les Schwab.

the wheel wells on 99+ stangs are so huge I think they look best w/18's (or even 19's). I'm running 275/35(or maybe 40)18's all around. I would go with 275 or larger out back, the 275's fit fine in the front but stick out a little and spray some dirt on my car, but i wouldnt go smaller than 245 in front. If youre keeping 17's I would just stick the widest tire possible on back and keep your stock rims, this will save you money and if decide to move up to 18's in the future you wont have to replace your rims you just bought. By the way I paid a little under 2k for 4 y2k chrome cobra r's w/yohohamas from discount tire direct.

I have (had) the same dilemma. I have stock bullits on the car and was told that the widest i could possibly go would be 275's in the back. So I went out and bought deep dish bullits and I am most likely going to put nittos on them. The total cost for that package will be ~$1700.

gotta have some serious meat :)...

I agree with why so many people get 315's, but for my situation it's less than ideal. I don't drag race, the tires cost more, there are fewer tires to pick from (most of them being drag radials, which I don't want), my gas mileage will suffer (I'm in bumper to bumper traffic all day), and they just look too big to me.

So, would 285's look ok on a 17x10.5" rim? Or should I skip out on the deep dish bullitts and get the 17x9 bullitts for the rear instead?

Looks and tire/wheel cost cannot operate in the same theory. Either you throw your true desire out the window, or you wallet. :D :rlaugh:

For me, it's gonna be 18X9 and 18X10 Boyd Coddington Smoothies II with Nitto 555s. At about $2200 for all, I could spend more, but more or less this is 'wallet out the window'...but I'll be happy! :D
